Pomme De Terre Fishing Report

05.11.26

Lake Conditions

Lake Level: 841.61, 67-68 degrees

Water condition: The lake is currently 2.61 feet high, down from last week. The water color is stained to dirty in the upper ends, it has good visibility in the lower end.

Action: Good

The crappie fishing is good. The crappie are scattered and in a variety of patterns. A few can still be caught spawning, some are in a post spawn pattern and some have started moving toward a summer pattern. They remain active and aggressive and can be easily caught, however it may take a while to find active fish, once found they are biting well.

Pattern: The crappie are congregating around brush in 10-20 feet of water. Some brush piles are loaded while others are very sparse with crappie. Casting jigs, letting them fall and slowly reeling them back has been very effective. The ones that have finished spawning are moving into a post spawn pattern – they are suspended in the mouths of coves and out of spawning areas, some are moving to hard timber structure. The crankbait bit is starting to kick in; it should improve significantly over the next week or so. On standing timber in 10-30 feet of water in the mouths of creeks and coves. Most of the crappie are 10-15 feet deep, they will hit a jig that is swimming past them. Some days they are more aggressive than others. Cast your jig past the tree, let it fall and slowly reel it back.

Lures: 2” jigs with an 1/8 th ounce head generally has been working well. The Crappie Slammers Shad Grub and Paddle tail have been hot baits. The crappie are preferring something with a little action. The preferred colors are: red/chartreuse, pink/chartreuse, silver pepper glow and white pearl chartreuse.

Crappie

Action: Good

The crappie fishing is good; most of the crappie are spawning, however due to the rising water they are not necessarily going to the bank. They remain active and aggressive and can be easily caught.

Pattern: The crappie are congregating around structure near spawning areas, go to your favorite spawn bank and look for structure in 15-25 feet of water. Casting jigs, letting them fall and slowly reeling them back has been very effective.
On standing timber in 20-30 feet of water in the mouths of creeks and coves. Most of the crappie are 10-15 feet deep, they will hit a jig that is swimming past them. Some days they are more aggressive than others. Cast your jig past the tree, let it fall and slowly reel it back.

Brush piles have been good, focusing on 10-25 feet of water. The crappie are around and in the brush. Cast a jig, let it fall to the top of the brush and reel back over it. They may not always been right on/in the brush, on certain days they are off to the side of the pile relating to it.

Lures: 2” jigs with an 1/8th ounce head generally has been working well. The Crappie Slammers Shad Grub and Paddle tail have been hot baits. The crappie are preferring something with a little action. The preferred colors are: red/chartreuse, pink/chartreuse, silver pepper glow and white pearl chartreuse.

Up close and personal. When they commit like this, you know you’re throwing the right bait.

The Crappie Slammers Grub Shad is built for that bite. Tight profile, constant tail action, and the kind of presence that makes crappie react instead of hesitate.

If you want more fish inhaling your bait instead of just bumping it, this is what you tie on.

Make the switch to Crappie Slammers Grub Shad and start turning looks into hookups.
