I can’t let today go by without wishing a Happy Heart Heavenly birthday to my sweet Katie Anne

August 17th is worth celebrating each and every year. 🎈❤️💕 It’s “Katies Day.”

18 years ago my sister Katie was given a gift, a gift of new life.
6 1/2 more years on earth to spend with us.

It was my first day of my senior year of college & I was walking to class when I received the call.
It was early in the morning. That entire summer when I saw my dads name on caller ID it was never good news. Starting with the day of Katie’s “incident” a few weeks prior.

But this day ..... (makes me smile just thinking about it 😊😊😊) it was good news. ❤️
Not only did we have a heart ... we had a heart AND kidney from the same donor and the transplant would start as soon as possible.

It broke me not to be there that day but I will never forget the sight of the weekend after. I walked in her hospital room, NOT in ICU) and saw my little sister awake and alert for the first time in weeks. She was snapping pictures of everyone and everything on a Polaroid camera giggling with that ornery Katie grin. 🥰

As much joy as this day brings me .... I also know this day brings a heartache to another family who 18 years ago lost their own child and generously gave my sister a second chance at life.

I WISH I COULD hug, thank and cry with this family every single year.
Unfortunately, I have no idea who this family is.

Today I pray for their family, my family and all families who have to deal with the pain of losing a child or sibling. 🙏🏻
And please ... check the box ... donate LIFE.
You never ever know the impact you may have on another family. ✅
