Blue Bell Camp has been owned and operated by three generations of the Harris Family since 1946. In small groups of 8-10 children, each camper learns over 20 activities in a productive atmosphere that develops confidence, independence, and leadership. BBC counselors are all certified school teachers who are specialists in their camp activity and are passionate about sharing their expertise with ea
ch camper. Our counselors' average age is 30 years old, and we have no teenager, high school, or college-aged counselors. Most of our counselors return to spend the summer with us year after year as part of our Blue Bell family. The Harris Family:
The four current directors, Tom, his wife Joyce, and their daughters, Katherine and Lisa, live, eat, and breathe camp. We are outside at camp all day long during the summer, and we prepare the other ten months of the year so your child will have the most rewarding two months of his or her life. It is important for us to get to know each of our campers and to develop a personal relationship with their families. Therefore, when you call us on the telephone, it will always be a member of the Harris family who answers, except during the camp day when we are with the children. We are typically available by phone from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. seven days a week in the off-season. Many camp directors have a background in phys ed, while our areas of expertise are child development and education. We frequently make visits to observe children in school to help parents determine if Blue Bell is the best place for their child and how we can help them reach their individual goals. Philosophy:
Enrolling a child in a summer camp can be an integral part of his or her development and education. Our campers learn over 20 activities in an atmosphere that promotes personal growth and development and provides a well-rounded experience. Offering instruction in many different activities allows each child to gain knowledge in multiple areas and gives them the ability to specialize in the future. We feel it is essential to set the foundation for children to be prepared for a variety of choices following their formative elementary school years. Blue Bell Camp provides a traditional and wholesome day camp experience that builds skills while de-emphasizing competition. All of the activities we offer, both athletic and creative, are a wonderful vehicle for children to learn values such as teamwork, self-esteem, integrity, manners, and sportsmanship in a fun and safe environment. Our goal for each camper is to come away from the summer having improved their skills as well as their character and personal responsibility.
