NRO Guide, Leo Cook’s 5.20.26 Trout Fishing Report:
Hey Guys hope all is well! Coming at you with a quick river report as I have been on enjoying the Pere Marquette.
It was a tougher first few weeks of trout opener due to the full fish from the high waters we had early spring, as well as the colder nights but that has all changed now, and we finally turned a corner! The fishing has been great for me this last week. I’ve been mixing it up based on conditions. While its been overcast and rainy, I’d focus on streamers and Rapalas during the day and then enjoy some dry fly fishing and mousing during the evenings. As far as bugs go, we are seeing Hendrickson, Sulphur’s, Drakes, and Yellow Stone flies. Pretty much the next month and a half is game on with dries! If you want a hex hatch date for the 2nd half of June I would get on it sooner rather than later as I’m starting to fill in. Give us a shout to get on the water and enjoy the Pere Marquette River. Tight lines,
Leo

4.21.26 River report / Trout Season officially here

Hey Guys,
Hope all is well. It has been a heck of a steelhead season on the Pere Marquette River with lots of rain. The river is finally level off and actually dropping nicely in the upper sections with a nice tea stain to the water. There are still some steelhead around, but are thinning out as we end the season of an incredible spring steelhead run. I will be guiding for steelhead for a few more days and then switching over to start up trout season on the Pere Marquette river! The trout are fat and happy right now, gorging on steelhead eggs and salmon fry. Im looking forward to this transition from steelhead to trout this year. Last years trout season was epic and from this year should be as well. Streamers and lure fishing will be great through the rest of April and into May. We should start to see excellent dry fly fishing going into the middle of May and all the way through June. See our resource we have on the website for people to use to see the dry fly hatching seasons by river. The pager outlines what flies are hatching when to give anglers an idea on what they should be mimicking. Give us a call to get on the books for trout season! 616-295-8373.
Please be careful floating or wading still as a lot of sections still are extremely high and there are sections with new trees and debris blocking passage. Good luck and hope to see you out on the water! Tight lines Leo

Pere Marquette fly fishing river update 4/11/26:
Fishing has been great the last couple days, lots of fish throughout the river. In the fly water, fry patterns and egg patterns have worked well. Look for gravel or dark water in between. Water levels are still on the high side so be careful when wading. We went mid-river today and floated some beads and the action was stellar. Ive got my favorites but really anything on the chartreuse was on fire today. If you know where the gravel sections are you should be able to find the fish. Of course mid river is pretty dirty but the fish don't seem to mind it. Those fat brown trout are on the prowl for a tasty meal and are pound for pound with they fights they give as well as the steelhead.
Get out and enjoy the rivers!
Andy

Good Morning and Happy Easter from NRO! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for following us and being part of the NRO family!!
Spring showers bring bright steelhead they say! The water levels have been high! Safety is the number one priority if you go out on your own. Our guides have been diligent with where to bring our clients as the wading conditions are very dicey with the high water. The constant rain seems a bit frustrating at times right now, but in reality this could be a blessing for the trout season. We have been in a multi year drought so these nice higher water levels are key to the resident fish that live here, as well as pushing lots of nice spawners into the river system and keeping them fresh. That being said with the high water levels, I have been pleasantly surprised with the visibility remaining fairly ok! We have been getting lots of action of chartreuse eggs, mega fry, and egg sucking leaches in colors black and purple. There have been an excellent number of spawners up in the river this year! Even in these high water levels the number of fish caught and fish we are hooking into has been very high. Its been an excellent spring season for getting into the nice resident browns as well! Clients may be here for Spring Steelhead, and the action has certainly been here, but landing one of the Pere Marquette’s brown trout over 18in is always an added win for the day!
Hit us up to join into the spring action! We still have lots of availability including weekend dates! The PM Steelhead season should still be going strong for another few weeks here so get in while you can! Also don’t be afraid to get on our books early for summer trout season! I have been seeing lots of very nice residents that would love to eat some streamers and mice this summer! Summer we offer a lot of flexibility in booking options depending on what you are looking for.
As always- be safe out there- safety is the name of the game! Call to book your next trip at 616-295-8373!
Tight lines, Leo
