‼️ Parks and Beaches has several upcoming projects that will require temporary closures. Signs will be posted at each location.

📍Rowell’s Waterfront Park: The park will be closed Sept. 21 until further notice to complete Phase 2 construction. The project is expected to be completed in December.
📍Big Pine Community Park – Tennis Courts: The tennis courts will be closed beginning Sept. 20 for about one week for resurfacing.
📍Watson Baseball Field in Big Pine Key: The baseball field will be closed Sept. 18 through the end of September to replace the field lighting.
📍Watson Dog Park – Large Dog Area in Big Pine Key: The large dog park will close for a couple of days while a light pole is replaced. We will provide the closure dates as soon as we receive the contractor's schedule.

NEW RAMPS COMING SOON: The Big Pine Community Park skate park will be closed until this Friday, Sept 11 to add the last few new concrete ramps to the park. 🛹

We apologize for the inconvenience and will announce the skate parks reopening as soon as the installation is complete.

Monroe County Parks and Beaches and the JOY Center will celebrate National Senior Center Month in September with a kick-off celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Plantation Key Community Center, 53 High Point Road, Plantation Key.

The free community event will highlight the programs, activities, and resources available to older adults in the Upper Keys while offering an afternoon of food, fun, and opportunities to connect with local organizations.

The celebration will feature:
• Local vendors
• Helpful community resources
• Free giveaways
• Free hamburgers and hot dogs

“Monroe County’s community centers are places where community members can stay active, build friendships, and learn something new,” said Parks and Beaches Director John Allen. “National Senior Center Month is a great opportunity to celebrate our participants and introduce more residents to everything available at the Plantation Key Community Center.”

The Plantation Key Community Center and JOY Center welcome seniors every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for activities focused on fun, friendship, wellness, learning, and social connection.

Rowell’s Waterfront Park in Key Largo will be completely closed for construction from Aug. 18 through Sept. 1, 2026.

"We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete this project," said Parks and Beaches Director John Allen. "Due to unexpected delays, the project has taken longer than originally anticipated. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to completing these improvements for the community to enjoy."
