Point to La Pointe Open Water Swim

Point to La Pointe Open Water Swim The P2LP Swim is a 2.1 mile swim across Lake Superior from Bayfield to Madeline Island. Point to LaPointe started as a community swim for 24 people in 2006.

Always hosted on the first Saturday in August this is a fundraiser for the Bayfield Rec Center. Swimming to the island has been a storied feat around the Bayfield area for decades. The event is now a race featuring more than 400 participants. Swimmers have encountered all of Lake Superior's moods over the years, from calm, flat water to strong crosswinds with 2 foot waves. The course follows the p

ath of the winter "ice road", starting in Bayfield and landing at a beautiful family home on Madeline Island. Spectators take the ferry across which offers views of the race. The event is a fundraiser for swim programs at the Bayfield Area Recreation Center. Casual swimmers can still enter the non-competitive event and use fins, etc.

Ask for help - your race will be a lot more fun! 👯‍♀️

✨ Registration is now open for those who commit to fundraising a minimum of $500 for their race entry. We know this sounds like a lot, but over the years we've seen people far surpass this goal.

Asking for money can be hard. Asking for help of any kind can be hard. But it's worth it for the support you feel when your community is behind you, cheering you on. 🎉

📖 🧠We know that fundraising is a skill- If you would like support building those skills or a little guidance on how you might get started - We’re here so that you can be successful and have a great experience!

The P2LP is a critical fundraiser for the Bayfield Rec Center. Each dollar you raise goes directly to support programs for youth, adults, families, and seniors. It allows us to provide scholarships for kids to learn to swim, sail, and be safe around water.
