The Baltimore Kickers were founded on September 23, 1953. The purpose was and is to promote the German culture, heritage, language and soccer.

It is a German social and soccer club.

Our Stammtisch met today at Valley View Restaurant. We had a good group. Everyone had a wonderful time!

Since our travel group will be staying in Augsburg and visiting the Fuggerei, I thought sharing would be fun!

In Augsburg, about 150 people pay 88 cents a year in rent.

Not a month. A year. The place is called the Fuggerei. The merchant Jakob Fugger founded it in 1521 for the needy of his city, and the rent has never gone up. It is the world's oldest social housing still in use.

Back then the rent was one Rhenish guilder. Today that comes to 88 euro cents, about a dollar. The rest of the rent is three prayers a day for the Fugger family.

To move in, you need at least two years in Augsburg, the Catholic faith and real need. The 67 little houses sit behind five gates, and they are still locked every night at 10.

Every front door has a bell pull of a different shape, so residents could find their own door by touch in the dark.

A dollar a year, but home by 10. Would you take it?

Kicker's Schlactfest was held this past Sunday. What is it?

Schlachtfest (literally "slaughter feast" or "butchery festival") is a traditional German community ritual and celebration centered around the home-slaughter of an animal—most commonly a pig—in the autumn or early winter.

What It Means
• Historical Purpose: Families or inns would slaughter and process a pig (or other livestock) just before winter to preserve meat, making use of every part of the animal without waste.
• Modern Adaptation: Today, it often functions as a festive autumn gathering—similar to a rural Oktoberfest—featuring live German music, b**r, dancing, and traditional pork dishes.
