What. A. Weekend.!!!!!!!!!!!🔥🤼
This weekend, Mat Assassins Wrestling Club welcomed more than 150 wrestlers representing 11 states for three days and roughly 18 hours of high-level wrestling.
And calling it simply a “camp” almost doesn’t do it justice.
The level of wrestling in this room was ELITE.
The pace was relentless. The drilling was intense and purposeful. The conditioning pushed athletes when they were already tired. And when it was time to go live, there was no shortage of incredible partners in the room.
The mats were filled with accomplished wrestlers from across the country — multiple State Champions from multiple states, Trinity Award winners, Fargo finalists and nationally accomplished wrestlers — all training side-by-side and pushing one another.
And they had an incredible group of coaches leading the room:
⭐ Zach Tanelli — Cornell Associate Head Coach, NCAA All-American at Wisconsin, three-time NCAA qualifier, Midlands Champion and Big Ten finalist, with nearly two decades of Division I coaching experience.
⭐ Sammy Sasso — Four-time NCAA All-American for Ohio State, two-time NCAA finalist, two-time Big Ten Champion, UWW Junior Freestyle National Champion and former U.S. Senior National Team member. A two-time Pennsylvania State Champion and Fargo, Super 32, Ironman and Beast of the East Champion.
⭐ Patrick Noonan — Division I wrestler at Virginia and Iowa State, PIAA AAA State Runner-Up, three-time NHSCA All-American and three-time Journeymen Classic Champion.
⭐ Colby Ems — PIAA AAA State Placewinner, Northeast Regional Champion, two-time District Champion and three-time Pennsylvania State Qualifier who went on to wrestle collegiately at Edinboro.
⭐ Van Dobish — A longtime Pennsylvania wrestling coach with decades of experience developing wrestlers at the youth, high-school and national levels.
But résumés only tell part of the story.
These coaches weren’t standing on the edge of the mat giving a few demonstrations.
They were in the room coaching — breaking down positions, correcting details, demanding better drilling, pushing the pace and sharing the kind of knowledge that comes from years of competing and coaching at the highest levels of this sport.
And the wrestlers matched that intensity.
150+ wrestlers.
11 states.
18 hours on the mats.
Three days.
One incredibly tough room.
There was no shortage of talent, but more importantly, there was no shortage of work.
When you put State Champions, national-level competitors and hungry young wrestlers together, give them elite instruction and ask them to push each other for three straight days, something special happens.
Iron sharpens iron.
We are incredibly proud of every athlete who stepped into this room and embraced the challenge. Thank you to our clinicians, coaches, parents, volunteers and every family who traveled from near and far to be part of this weekend.
This is the environment we want to continue creating at Mat Assassins Wrestling Club — a place where serious wrestlers can walk into a room full of serious partners, receive elite-level instruction and leave better than they came.
The standard was high.
The room was tough.
And the wrestling was even better. 🔥
And we’re not done.
We’re already working on bringing this camp back next year — bigger, better, and with the same elite level of training. Stay tuned for 2027 dates and details. You won’t want to miss the next one. 👀🔥
Until next time. 🥷🤼
