For years, Kydd Joe has been one of the people helping bring joy, energy, and inspiration to Sunday night gatherings in downtown Augusta.

Watching his journey has been a reminder that growth doesn’t stop when the music ends. Through challenges, hard work, continued education, and professional achievement, he has continued to evolve while staying committed to serving others.

Earning a degree and multiple certifications is an accomplishment worth celebrating, but what stands out most is his character and his desire to give back to the community that has supported him.

From all of us at Candlelight, congratulations on this well-deserved milestone. Thank you for sharing your talents with Augusta and for continuing to inspire others through your example. 🎓🎶

Augusta native Dr. Andre Mountain and local jazz leader Karen Gordon will be featured in Taking Notes: Jazz and the American Story on June 11 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

The free program explores American history through the music and influence of jazz legends featured in the library’s collection, including Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong. The event will be held in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium.

(Sharing from Augusta Recreation and Parks)

This is a thoughtful reminder that community events are designed to be enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

While many of us love our pets, large crowds, loud music, food vendors, and busy event environments can be stressful for animals and challenging for some guests. Creating welcoming spaces sometimes means balancing individual preferences with the comfort and safety of the broader community.

Thank you to event organizers for thinking through these details and helping ensure a positive experience for all attendees.

UPDATE: We’ve got a small indoor space in South Augusta (30906) and an outdoor location downtown near the lake (30904). Still awaiting confirmation for outside 30815 and 30830. … might even have a spot in Blythe. Where y’at?!

Happy Today!

Over the next several weeks, the Garden City Jazz team will be working toward a fall concert experience in South Augusta. We'd love to get some feedback as we go about the planning process. We are thinking about the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend (or early October), but are pretty flexible.

We are always open to non-traditional concert spaces, so we are all ears. Let us hear from you - what's a nice spot on the south side for an intimate jazz experience?

Indoors? Outside? We're open to it!
