That's a wrap for spring trials at the Chippewa Valley grounds!

We had a great spring championship with 41 dogs running in the North Country Championship and 26 dogs in the accompanying derby stake. The 4-day event had everything Wisconsin weather has to offer in the spring, from 80 degree temps, to a skiff of snow one morning, to tornado warnings on Friday afternoon. Even with all that going on, we were able to stay on schedule and everyone (and their dogs) remained safe.

Thanks to Alex Anderson and Chris Bye for judging the Championship, and Jeremy Moore and Josh Matel for marshaling. Thanks, too, to Brent Sittlow and Keenan Foley for judging the derbies. There are many others to thank, too: Roger King and Denny Baumann for getting lunches and moving vehicles (among many other things), Rod Lein for getting coffee and donuts a couple days, and a myriad of other folks who jumped in to move vehicles, scout, and generally help us keep this trial moving along. Finally, a big thanks to Purina for helping make these trials possible!

Congratulations to Tim Kaufman with Lake Effect Ali for taking home the championship and runner-up Northwoods Homer handled by Mitch Anderson. Our derbies rounded out a fine group of young bird dogs with Grouse Trails Ginger Sunshine, handled by John McKellop, Northwoods Peregrine, handled by Chris Bye, and Aspen's Edge Dwight, handled by Mitch Anderson. Congratulations to all & thanks again to all who made this a fantastic weekend!

We have been able to run 6 courses each day for the CH. We will continue to do so tomorrow and finish the final 3 braces on Sunday.

The derbies will start after lunch on Saturday, but lunch will start after brace 3 of the shooting dog, so if you’re in an early derby brace, please be there by noon. Lunch will be at the Roger King Knight’s Pool Pavilion and the derbies will take off from Wilson Park.

Running Order for the North Country Shooting Dog Championship & Derby APRIL 16 – APRIL 19!

We are excited to welcome Trialers to Wisconsin for our spring championship at the North Country!

Continuous courses will be run in the following order for Open Shooting Dog. Derby will also be run on continuous courses, to be announced.

Wilson Park
Gasline
Highline
Diablo - Jake
Culvert
Crash

Current high water levels and forecasted rain this week will likely render courses H and Horse Creek unusable for this weekend's trial. Therefore, we are expecting to run 6 braces of Shooting Dog per day. If we can use those courses, then 7 braces will be run, and course order would change for subsequent days.

Tentative weekend schedule:

🔹THURSDAY, April 16
Open Shooting Dog, starting at 7:30am at Wilson Park
6 or 7 Braces/Day

🔹FRIDAY, April 17
Open Shooting Dog, starting at 7:30am at Wilson Park
6 or 7 Braces/Day

🔹SATURDAY, April 18
Open Shooting Dog, starting at 7:30am at Wilson Park
6 or 7 Braces/Day

Open Derby
Saturday, Time/Location TBD (After Lunch)

🔹SUNDAY, April 19
(If Needed) Open Shooting Dog, starting at 7:30am at Wilson Park

Open Derby, Time/Location TBD
Run to Completion

📍Meeting Locations:
Morning: Hamilton Falls Road off County Highway MM

Lunch available each day at the Knight’s Pool Pavilion on Channey Road (at the river crossing)

Comfortable, waterproof boots are strongly encouraged!

North Country Shooting Dog Championship Announcement!!!

We will meet on the morning of Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 a.m. at Township Memorial Park (AKA Wilson Park). Due to the large number of entries, we are going to have to keep things moving along. The course order will be as follows: Wilson Park, Gas Line, High-Line, Diablo Jake, Culvert, and Crash (followed by H Course and Horse Creek if the river comes down enough to allow access). The plan is to run a minimum of 6 shooting dog braces Thursday and Friday (we will run 7 each day if Horse Creek and H Course aren’t too flooded to use). Saturday, we will start the derbies after lunch and that stake will run concurrently with the shooting dog stakes. The CH should conclude by Saturday evening or before lunch on Sunday (depending on whether we're able to run 6 or 7 braces per day). The derbies will run until completion on Sunday.

We are at the mercy of mother nature, but we will do everything in our power to ensure that we run at least 6 SD courses per day. Please arrive in a reasonable timeframe to ensure that you won't miss your brace. We also will tolerate no abuse of judges, marshalls, etc. People volunteer their time to make these trials run efficiently, and we expect them to be treated with respect. If you have any questions, please reach out to Alex Anderson (715-451-4505) or Keenan Foley (608-212-2342). Big thanks to all of the volunteers and our sponsor Purina Pro Plan Sporting Dogs and Greg Blair!

We will post updates on the cover dog message board and the CVGDA social media accounts as we get through the first day or two of the trial and have a clearer idea of how the timeline is going to unfold. Below is the running order:
