9/1 Chadwick Bay Marina-had a rescheduled trip today for Jim and Doug Beasock from the Pittsburgh area. They knew we’d have less than perfect conditions with SW winds off Dunkirk. So we got our fish in some pretty bumpy conditions. Besides their wall eyes, we had some freshwater drum. One was 26.5” and really made one of my St Croix diver rods pound. Thought we had a “silver” fish. Not many pics as staying on your feet was a job in itself. Proline worked well and I was able to maintain speed without any bags.
Got better weather coming for the weekend and have some open dates. Expect the great fishing to continue.

I don’t get to fish with my son Kevin and his kids Stellah and Jude often as they live in Olympia, Washington. They arrived late Friday and with some nasty Lake Erie weather late Saturday thru Monday in the forecast. We got a short window in Saturday afternoon.
Jude jumped on a rigger fish and for a 12 year old played a nice 26” walleye. Had a decent bite and got back to Dunkirk without getting wet.
Jude wanted to learn to fillet fish so Grandpa showed him how to handle a knife. Practice best teacher so he did 3 fish himself. He got better until he got worn out. Next step was dinner and everyone enjoyed fresh walleye. Great to have them here.

Saturday August 8th-Dunkirk Chadwick Bay Marina-back on Proline after a few day out of town. Had Derek Zona and his son along with two friends , all from Pennsylvania. Repeat trip for Derek. Got two new guys their 1st Walleyes. Lots of warm water so started in 85 and worked 100 to 110 fow. 4 man box in 41/2 hours-plus bonus steelhead. Silver Streaks in Razzle Dazzle, Pumpkin Spice and Jelly Bean did most of work on the riggers and slide divers. Kilam Custom Bandits on 5 color got action too. Eyes were inhaling the spoons - good bite not a slow pick. Deep water off Dunkirk holds bait and fish in late August and September. Dates available.

7/30-My original plan was to take a group of 3 outdoor writers out on Lake Erie. With the wind and waves of the previous days, my group shrunk to Tyler Franz of Natural Pursuit Outdoors from eastern Pennsylvania about 5 1/2 hour drive. Tyler had a story deadline for Pennsylvania Outdoor News and some kids wanting Dad to bring walleye fillets home. At 7am the Lake was still rolling but we headed out. I turned around 3 times but Tyler said he could handle it. We got to 85 fow and got setup to troll. My Proline and Simrad auto pilot held a steady course and speed. Tyler got some nice pics and you get a feel for the conditions. I spoke with another Captain whose autopilot couldn’t hold course and he came in. I only ran 4 lines-2 downriggers and 2 slide divers with Silver Streak spoons. The fish were deeper with the blow but were on the spoons. Pumpkin Spice was on fire on the riggers. With the rough water we lost a couple, but quickly got Tyler his fish. We got back to port, got fish cleaned/bagged and Tyler on his way before noon. He has his story and another memorable trip with Infinity Charters. About 8 years ago Tyler got his 1st musky at Chautauqua out of my Lund.

7/28 and 7/29-Dunkirk Chadwick Bay. We had wind and weather which cancelled a Charter for me on the 28th and the Eastern Lake Erie Charter Boat Annual VIP Day fishing activities on the 29th. The VIP Day Welcome Party on evening of 28 and the luncheon at noon on the 29th went on. The ELECBA with support from Erie and Chautauqua County Tourism promotes our Lake Erie fishing resource to tourism and political sources. In spite of the waves we had good conversations with leaders from across the area and the NYSDEC as well as our volunteers from ELECBA. Lake Erie and Mother Nature tell us when we can fish. Next year we hope for calm winds and clear skies.

July 24 and 25-Point Breeze Oak Orchard Lake Ontario. Annual “fun” fishing with old friends from MT and Fairport, NY for salmon. This year I didn’t need to bring a boat so got to ride. Got numbers and size. I had one that tickled the scales near 30lbs. We didn’t have derby tickets but fun anyway. Landed another Friday at 25lbs. Got enough salmon Friday so Saturday was C and R except for bleeders. Great time with good friends and a flat lake so we were off shore where I like it best.

July 17 Chadwick Bay Marina, Dunkirk - Sometimes as a Charter Boat Captain you have to step it up. Had two out of town 1st time groups for Friday and Saturday. Both were in town for the weekend. With storms forecasted for Saturday called for a decision. Working with both groups, I ran a double charter Friday.
In the morning Joseph Luther, his son and buddy had a great bite and we boxed out early. Ran in, got to cleaning station and got their fish cleaned. Joe’s son was great got his first walleye and pitched in helping with everything including cleaning.
Got boat cleaned up and Mark Croyle’s group was ready to board, got fuel and we were pointed out the harbor by 12:30. Mark’s crew were all new to Lake Erie and hadn’t fished in years. Ran back to our morning line and fish were still there just a bit deeper. Got our box of walleye plus a bonus silver fish. Lake was flat and fast for the trip in. Got the fish cleaned and bagged. Long day for the Captain and totaled 44 fish filleted for the day. I don’t use a mate so pretty much on my feet from start to finish. Got our trips in, people happy with nice fish for their plate. The bite on Lake Erie is just exceptional-if you haven’t been out-take a charter!

July 16-Chadwick Bay Marina, Dunkirk-had Ian Harvey, his dad and two buddies from Rochester area. Ian got some great shots of their trip. Shows what a charter is all about. These guys had a great time and caught up in conversations. Also had great fishing by boxing out. Helped in cleaning station and got a nice bunch of fillets. Running 10 rods and keeping up with the bites, the captain stays busy! Great trip.
