We are Flying again! Gov. Cuomo has placed Chautauqua County in western NY re-open region. As of this writing our area is approved for Phase 3 reopening. Our reading is that even under the strictest interpretation, this allows us to offer flights again. Although technically "chartered air transportation" is an essential business, we have been advised that balloon sightseeing rides do not meet the spirit of the guidelines. So out of an abundance of caution we paused our flights until June 16th.

You will be offered hand sanitation upon arrival at the launch site, chase vehicle will have been Ozium Sanitized, your temperature will be scanned, and screening questions asked, flights canceled due to COVID uncertainty will be rescheduled without charge or penalty.

As a precautionary measure you will may be asked to don a mask during our time together, until restrictions are completely lifted. If this is either uncomfortable or not preferred, we would suggest booking your flight later in the season.

We have been cooped up all spring! We all need a break: from the news; from the isolation; from the boredom. We need to forget about that vacation we could not take. We need a way to celebrate life, commemorate mile stones, and be reminded of the wonder of God’s creation.

There is no better way to stretch your wings and fly the nest, than to take a balloon ride with those you love the most. Through July 31st, Sky Sail Balloons is offering a 10% discount to Chautauqua County Residents Only, towards the purchase of a private group boarding pass for a Hot Air Balloon sightseeing ride. Your group of 2-4 will have a private flight; you will not be exposed to unrelated passengers.

Friends of ballooning, with everything that has been going on, we all need something to look forward to, what better than a balloon flight, with your loved ones. We are looking forward to a time when we can once again share the wonder to ballooning with the community, albeit from appropriately social distances.
It has been a trying spring with COVID 19 dominating our travel and social interactions. As time goes on we are learning more about the virus.
• We now know properly wearing a double layer face mask helps non- symptomatic carriers of the virus form infecting other people. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
• We know that UV light is very effective at killing the virus on surfaces and in the air. https://sites.nationalacademies.org/BasedOnScience/covid-19-does-ultraviolet-light-kill-the-coronavirus/index.htm
• Asymptomatic carriers are capable of infecting other people. Community spread of the virus is less prevalent in areas outside of areas of widespread ongoing transmission. Communities where containment (testing, contact tracing, and infectious quarantine) is more well established, there has been less incidence of community spread of the virus. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/public-health-recommendations.html
• We know that other than the elderly and people with underlying health conditions, most healthy people are at much lower risk of having a fatal result from the disease. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/groups-at-higher-risk.html
So what does this mean for Ballooning once we are able to get back in the air? Obviously ballooning activities are conducted outside in the presence of UV light, so that’s a plus. We constitute a small group always 10 people or less, another plus. Generally folks taking balloon rides are of good health. Obviously if you are of compromised health we encourage you to continue to minimize your exposure! We intend to wear masks and require them for our passengers until restriction are completely lifted. I this is unacceptable we would encourage you to book your flight after restrictions have been lifted.
Many large balloon events scheduled for early this summer have been canceled. This is because these events that draw large crowds, potentially from significant distances, and areas where there is ongoing widespread transmission of the disease. Our private operations do not present the same risk.
We intend to begin operations as soon as gathering of 10 are allowed. We will be changing our procedures to eliminate the post flight celebratory toast; to conveying of the balloonists blessing. Passengers will still receive a bottle for their private celebration at home after the flight. Commutative pins will be handed out as opposed to a formal pinning ceremony. Crew will be driving in multiple chase vehicles as opposed to riding together, thereby minimizing close contact exposures.
We know you are itching to get out of the house, as we all are. We know we can conduct low risk operations now, however until such times as nonessential gatherings of up to 10 are allowed by Gov, Cuomo, we will impatiently wait to share the wonder of flight, for in the words of Leonardo Da Vinci “Once you have tasted flight you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there will you long to return"

We have word from the factory that our balloon is complete and receiving its final certification. Although we would have loved to have it for Easter morning as a fitting christening flight, It was not flyable here, and we would have had to travel some distance to find flyable weather. So it is just as well.

We expect delivery in the next three weeks. Stay tuned. The delay is due to cascading backlogs resulting from the west coast Teamsters action affecting sea freight in the mid-winter. Air Freight is still dealing with the missed critical sea freight shipments.

I am reminded that God’s things happen in God’s time.

Whereupon Jesus said to them, My time (opportunity) has not come yet; but any time is suitable for you and your opportunity is ready any time [is always here]. John 7: 6

We look forward to an inaugural flight before Pentecost

The number one question we get asked is: Where and when we will have a public tether. Saturday July 12th from 6 - 8 we will be tethering across the street from the Rouse Home in Youngsville PA as a part of the Rouse Home Summer festival.

This is a VERY SPECIAL opportunity because The Rouse home is subsidizing the cost of the rides. They want to showcase their wonderful facility, and to give back to the community and families of Rouse Home residents. If you want to share the wonder of ballooning with someone at a very reasonable price, here is your chance. They will be having a BBQ for purchase and music and other games and activities. It is sure to be a festive Family oriented event. The Weather is looking good for the 12th in the current forecast. Hope to see you there!

Although the 2012 flying season is winding down, now is the perfect time to purchase a gift certificate for next season. Buy now and beat the rate increase. Rides are wonderful for: a Thank You, Christmas, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Graduation or for Newlyweds. They are the perfect gift for folks who have all their material needs, but would appreciate the ultimate in ethereal gifts.
