Long Gong of Alabama held our monthly match on Saturday September 5th 2026 at Rod’s Pasture Range in Oxford Alabama.

Due to it being a holiday weekend, we were missing 6-8 of our regular shooters but we also had 4 shooters who made the trip to shoot with us the 1st time. Thanks Corey, Gus, Ed, JD, for shooting with us, you are always welcome.

To say that the weather was HOT is a major understatement.

The wind was fairly calm in the early morning as we sighted in & prepared for the start of the match. But as usual, the wind showed up about match time and the scores reflected it.

Thanks to the young’ens of Hunter & Tanner for helping get everyone registered, monies collected, shooting orders selected & jumping on the Kubota RTV and going down range to paint the targets between the rounds.

Congrats to the match winners-

1st- Matt with a score of 77.
2nd- Cody with a score of 64.
3rd- Ed with a score of 62.

After we finished the regular match, 8 guys chipped money into the pot to shoot a “10 for 4 match”. Winner takes all for the most hits on the 4” plate out of 10 shots. After the 10 for 4 match we had a 3 way tie between Cody, Jeremy & JD, each with 5 hits. We held a 2nd round of the 10 for 4 shoot to break the tie. Cody had 2 hits, JD had a strong 7 hits and appeared to be in a good position to win but Jeremy swept the match and went 10 hits on the 4” plate out of 10 shots.

Thanks to all who came out to shoot with us. We enjoyed the fellowship as much as we do the shooting.

Our next monthly match will be Saturday October 3rd. Come shoot with us and experience the wind (aka The Vortex).

Several shooters from Alabama & Maine had the opportunity to travel to Bristol Virginia this weekend (8/14-8/16) to shoot in what was promoted & described as the World’s Largest Long Gong Shoot. This shoot was 2 separate matches where we shot a 22lr r***e at 8”, 6”, & 4” steel gongs at a distance of 300 yards. The scoring took the totals from both matches & divide by 2 to come up with an average score. There were 77 competitors in the matches from 15 states of the eastern half of the US.

The Alabama & Maine group did really well. Of the 77 competitors, here is how we finished:

Moss Branch Shooting Range will be hosting our monthly Steel Challenge match on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Registration starts at 8 AM.
The match starts at 9 AM.

Cost is $10 per shooter for the first gun and five dollars per shooter for the second gun or more.

The Steel Challenge range will be open on Friday around 4:00 PM for practice.

We are missing a couple of aluminum walk boards that were in the match area in the back of the Range. Have you seen anyone at the range with them?

These aluminum walk boards were used as Shooting props for the 22 long r***e PRS matches and are similar to this one pictured.

We would like to find them. We will offer a generous reward for any information leading to the return of these walk boards. Additionally any information that you share will be kept incomplete confidence.

Here are the scores from the Alabama Long Gong match held at Rod’s Pasture Range on Saturday August 1st 2026.

Thanks to all of you who came out to shoot the match. We had 20 shooters in this match. Alabama Long Gong is growing because it’s a fun game but more importantly it’s because we have a great group of folks who enjoy helping each other.

Congratulations to our winners today. The West Alabama Tuscaloosa guys did well:

2nd- Burt Duvall
3rd- Ricardo Rodriguez

We had at least 5 new shooters today (maybe more). I believe every one of the new shooters has already jumped down the Long Gong rabbit hole or they peering over the edge and about to jump in.

We had 2 new records to happen at Rod’s Pasture Range today during the match. We had :
-the 1st perfect round of 27 shot by Jeff Koon
-the highest match score ever of 75 shot by Jeff Koon

The wind was kind to the shooters for about have of the match.

Thanks to Garry for putting together this score board. I have asked Garry to build another one because we had this one full with 20 shooters.

Everyone is invited to come shoot with us. We have a monthly match the 1st Saturday of each month.
