Breaking news: the Mount Superior butterfly has emerged from its cocoon—a month or two earlier than usual 🦋
 
On Sunday, May 24th, Alta residents and employees awoke to a certain hanging snowfield on Mount Superior emerging in the shape of a butterfly as the snowpack melts into Little Cottonwood Creek.
 
It’s a tradition for Alta employees to guess the date when the butterfly’s wings split, signifying an unofficial start to summer.

Our weekend warrior documented his 10th season at Alta—the least-snowiest season on record. Turns out it was a great year to get the little ones out, practice some bump skiing or even climb one of Alta’s bootpacks in search of the weekend’s best snow.
