This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never free. It was earned through courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to something greater than self.

As a retired Army officer, Memorial Day holds deep meaning for me. It is a day of remembrance for those who stood beside us, led with honor, and made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and our values.

Today, may we pause to reflect, remember, and live in a way that honors their legacy, with purpose, gratitude, and service to others.

You can’t outwork exhaustion.

You can grind through it.

You can even wear it like a badge of honor.

But eventually… it will cost you.

Not all at once.
Not dramatically.

But one decision at a time.

I’ve seen this in combat, in command, and in the boardroom.

Leaders don’t fail because they don’t work hard.

They fail because they mismanage their energy when it matters most.

30 years ago, I sat in these seats as a student.
Today, I’m back… watching my daughter consider the same university.

Nearly three decades ago, I graduated from Kean University.

Shortly after graduation, I began a career of service, spending 26 years in the United States Army, an experience that shaped my leadership and life in profound ways.

Today, I returned to campus for Accepted Students Day.

But this time…

I’m not the student.

I’m here with my daughter, who is considering the very university where my own journey began.

Standing here today reminded me how powerful the journey of life can be.

From a young college graduate…
to a career of service…
to now the author of The Purpose Code: Unlock Your Full Potential and Transform Your Life.

Life truly has a remarkable way of coming full circle.

Feeling deeply grateful for the journey, the lessons, and the opportunity to watch the next generation step into their future.
