The Honorable Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports today held a constructive and forward-looking meeting with officials of the Tonj South Football Association (TSFA) to address ongoing challenges affecting football development in the region.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry to restore normalcy in sports activities following the recent suspension of TSFA, which was attributed to concerns over political interference in football administration.
During the engagement, the Hon. Minister was briefed on the circumstances that led to the suspension and the impact it has had on young people and football stakeholders across Tonj South.
In response, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the autonomy of sports institutions and ensuring that they operate independently and in accordance with their constitutions.
“Sports must remain free from political interference. Our role as a Ministry is to guide, supervise, and support—not to control or interfere. We are committed to restoring trust and ensuring that football activities resume for the benefit of our young people,” the Hon. Minister stated.
The Minister further assured TSFA officials that the Ministry will take immediate steps to facilitate the lifting of the suspension through official communication with the Kuajok Football Association (KFA), reaffirming its independence and authority to oversee football matters in line with its constitution.
Once the suspension is lifted, a transitional period of three months will be granted to the current TSFA leadership to prepare for democratic elections. These elections will be organized and supervised by KFA to ensure transparency, accountability, and adherence to established football governance structures.
The Hon. Minister, Makom also emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among all stakeholders, urging KFA and TSFA to work closely together in promoting football development at both the state and county levels without exclusion.
“Football is a unifying force for our communities. We must work together to nurture talent, engage our youth positively, and build a strong and inclusive sports system,” he added.
The Ministry is expected to finalize all necessary processes and documentation promptly, with further engagements scheduled to conclude the remaining steps. The public will be kept informed of all developments in due course.
