The Bar Muscle-up is a really good skill to aim for as a Calisthenics practitioner because it involves Pulling + Pushing Strength AND technique + power

It really develops a good set of Fitness for the upper body and a good test if your foundations is solid 👌🏼

I would advise developing your basic Pull-ups, Dips, Rows and Push-ups with full range of motion and a stable torso before starting to work on this skill for faster progress

Then comes the specific skill/technique part where we use a swinging motion, a snapping pull-up and a quick shift of weight around and over the bar and the rest is just a regular Dip.

If you’re stuck in the transition no matter what you do, perhaps I can offer some modifications and advice on what you need to work on. Save yourself the wasted effort and frustration from working so hard but not seeing results.

The World Is Our Playground

I’m now 40yo turning 41 this year and just now I am able to afford to pay for private sessions as I grew up poor and my parents couldn’t afford to support these kinds of activities

I did play outside a lot as a kid; I ran and jumped on the dirt, scraped my knees and elbows countless times

And this shaped my viewpoint in life when it comes to Movement, in Play and simply doing something new for the first time— something that most adults lose the older they get

I want to remind them to play again like a child including those who never really learned as a kid. I want to remind them we are capable and resilient, no matter how much older we have gotten and how insecure we feel in our own body at the moment

It’s never too late my friends. I will continue to serve as an example to inspire that with the right approach, anyone at any age can do it, one step at a time. And actually I’m not the only one, I know others who are even more capable than I am who are much older— I want you to open up your mind and heart to this possibility which lies dormant right now

Life is too short to take ourselves too seriously; to live in a dull, lifeless way feeling small and scared, “What if I get hurt?”

All I can tell you is, it hurts more to live life in regret and not to at least give it our best shot.

Can’t find Balance no matter how hard you try?

I’ve taught mostly adults without any gymnastics background or handstand experience over the years on learning hand balancing and I observed a common denominator among them:

‘They’re afraid of falling’

And I truly understand because as adults, our fear settings are already set to the max, especially if you have fallen or injured yourself in the past

I do know however, that there’s only one way to overcome this fear, and it’s through doing what scares us the most. And I know how terrifying that sounds, maybe even oversimplified— because it is

I just happen to have developed a system; a programming of exercises and drills to expose ourselves to these scary movements while still being safe and within our boundaries of safety so that we can develop a new experience in that given movement or skill.

It’s not easy to be honest, but it’s possible. And I’ll be with you every step of the way.

We all have a similar body but the way we experience and interpret movements differs relative to our own unique background and history

If you are following a tutorial you found online or copying a program from a well-known influencer, it may or may not work for you and it will take considerable time and energy to learn how each movement is

You might even think you’re doing it well until after some time and see no progress because there’s a disconnect in how you thought the movement looks like versus how it is supposed to be— this is very common without direct feedback from the coach or trainer

Each trainer or coach have their specific way of doing things and usually it needs to be followed precisely which won’t work if mixed with other programs or only following it one time then jump to another program the next.

If you truly want to improve and not waste your precious time and energy, choose a coach that you truly resonate with. Someone who can do exactly what you want to do and also have had others achieve the same

Stick with it for a while; really give it your dedication then you will know for sure if it works or not and make a decision from there.

True to my name, I lead by example; I only teach what I have done and experienced first hand, trying and testing both with myself and my students and clients

And that’s why the methodology works. Because I personally know what it’s like to learn something new; how fear and insecurity kicks in— not everyone understands this especially if they were naturally skilled at it or they have done it since they were a child

I will break down any skill to bite-sized pieces and modify my approach on the spot when I notice the student is struggling. Because learning is individualistic; what is easy for others may not be easy for another and vice versa

I wished someone was there for me when I was just starting so now here I am, being that person for someone else.

“The deeper the Tuck, the stronger your shoulder complex must be to carry the extra weight in front of your body”

This may sound complicated but it’s actually simple if you imagine a weighing scale; the old one not the digital one, like the Libra sign

To remain in balance, when one goes down, the other goes up— that is your shoulder and hip in relation to each other

So legs in front, coming down into a Tuck = something has to go forward for counterweight. And if you’re bottom heavy, even more so

This is better understood through practice; it’s best to experience it yourself rather than intellectualize it. I offer consultations where I see how you move, recommend what you need to work on and work your way from there

For the next two weeks, I am opening slots for serious practitioners to develop a specific facet of their practice:

1- Mobility and Flexibility (Shoulders Overhead, Pancake, Side Split, Front Split)
2- Handstand Skills and Conditioning (Balancing, Kick-up, Bailing Out)
3- Animal Flow (Movement and Flow)

I will work closely with each and one of you, providing guidance and coaching in every step of the way to develop a level of competence in any of these.

You can expect to be proficient and self-sufficient after at least 5 sessions with me and simply touch base whenever you’re ready to take it further after some time.

I have worked with a wide range of practitioners and equipped with tools; both experience and knowledge to guide you in your current level and help you set an achievable short term goal.
