At just 27 years old, Artjoy Torregosa rewrote the record books by running an incredible 2:33:54, breaking the Philippine womenโs marathon record by nearly 10 minutes. An amazing achievement for Philippine running. ๐
I had the privilege of running alongside her during the Cebu International Marathon, and while her speed was impressive, what stood out even more was her character.
Every time someone shouted, โGo, Artjoy!โ from the sidelines, she always acknowledged them with a smile or a โLetโs go!โ Even in the middle of racing, she took the time to encourage others.
She even started conversations while we were running. Meanwhile, I was just trying to survive while she was cruising comfortably at what looked like an easy pace ๐
Despite everything sheโs accomplished, Artjoy has remained incredibly humble and never forgotten the people who supported her along the way. Thatโs the kind of champion our sport needs.
