Wellington Rowing Club is one of the premier rowing clubs in New Zealand. Situated on the Wellington Waterfront, it is also one of the most sought after pieces of real estate in the city. We have been a part of Wellington for over 100 years. The club has a fine reputation in the rowing community and has produced many international oarsmen and oarswomen, including Olympic and World Championship gold. Queens Cup Regatta - 2026

📅 Saturday, 17 October.

📍 Honiara Te Puni Reserve, Petone, Lower Hutt.

🕢 7.30 am to 4.00 pm

Come down and support rowers from the Wellington Region.

We are back racing on the Korokoro 2000m course, now with improved spector viewing!

Walk to the start via the Te Ara Tupua Pathway, and follow the crews back, or stay at the finish area and watch the crews cross the line.

🚣 NEW LIFEJACKET RULES – WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OUR ROWERS

🦺 From 9 October 2026 (today) new national lifejacket rules apply across New Zealand. Here’s what our rowing community needs to know.

What does this mean for rowers?

Rowers may be exempt from the new requirement to wear a lifejacket while underway under the sporting activity exemption. However, there are still important safety requirements:

* With a coach boat: The sporting activity exemption may apply where a suitable support vessel is readily available and the relevant safety requirements are met.

* Without a coach boat: Rowers must carry appropriately sized personal flotation devices (PFDs) in accordance with the applicable rules.

* Safety first: All crews must continue to follow club safety procedures and applicable regional navigation bylaws

📌 Please familiarise yourself with the updated requirements and speak with the club’s safety officer if you’re unsure how they apply to your training session.

North Island Provincial Regatta 2026

A huge congratulations to all the Wellington rowers who raced at the North Island Provincial Regatta.

🥉 Wellington finished 3rd overall — a fantastic result and a reflection of the depth and strength of rowing across our province.

Behind every result are countless hours of training, early mornings, coaching sessions, boat loading, travel and support from whānau, clubs and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who contributed to getting our crews to the start line and supporting them throughout the weekend.

The WRC Learn to Row kicks off this Sunday!🚣🔥💪

Join us down at the club on Sunday 27 September at 4:30pm and Thursday 1 October at 6:00pm to learn the basics of rowing!

What you'll need:
-Comfortable workout gear (and warm clothing for afterwards)
-Sports footwear
-Water bottle

📍 Learn to Row is free and open to everyone aged 17+, regardless of experience or skill level.
