❤️🖤 PŌNEKE SUPPORTERS OF THE WEEK ❤️🖤
SARAH AND JASON HUGGINS
This week, we’re throwing the spotlight on Sarah and Jason Huggins, a fantastic family who travel all the way from Masterton to back the red and blacks. They joined the Pōneke community in 2025 when their son Hamish, aka "Big Red," moved down to study architecture at Victoria University. From day one, the players and coaches went out of their way to introduce themselves, making Hamish and his parents feel instantly part of the family.
Game days are a massive team effort for the Huggins crew. Whether Sarah and Jason are driving over the Rimutakas or watching the livestream alongside grandparents, uncles, and Hamish’s twin sisters, Samantha and Amelia, it always leads to some incredibly lively post-match analysis.
Their ultimate highlight so far was beating OBU twice in 2025. Because of the university's location, Hamish had actually trained and started out with OBU initially. Seeing "Big Red" and the lads dig deep for those massive wins, and celebrating together in the clubrooms afterward, was an absolute peak moment.
When they aren't on the sidelines, Jason enjoys hunting, fishing, and mucking around on their lifestyle block, while Sarah loves gardening, sewing, and motorsport.
The Huggins family absolutely love Pōneke’s inclusiveness, from the juniors and the growth of the Women’s game, to the brotherhood across the men’s teams and the sheer resilience of our Premiers. They hope the club progresses even further over the next decade so the next generation can experience this exact same sense of belonging.
In their own words: “Thanks for making us feel welcome.”
Thank you Sarah, Jason, and the family for your awesome support! Next time you see them on the sidelines, make sure to say gidday.
