THURSDAY NIGHT ROUNDS 🔥

Every now and again, we raise the intensity of the room!

Once the technique is done, it’s time to get a sweat on.

We start our live rounds in naturally slower paced positions like mount, half guard or back control. This gives everyone time to work through positions properly while still getting plenty of live resistance.

From there, we get on the feet and push the conditioning with a full stand up round. 🤼

Then we finish with short, fast paced scramble rounds. We’ll pick positions like turtle that naturally create movement, transitions and scrambles.

2 minutes attacking, then 2 minutes defending.

The goal is simple: find the submission before the clock runs out. ⏱️

Short rounds, high pace and a little extra pressure, a great way to recreate some of the urgency and intensity you feel in competition. 💪🔥

HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK SHOULD YOU TRAIN? 🤔

It’s one of the most common questions we get and the answer really depends on what you want out of your training.

If you’re brand new, 2x per week is a great place to start. You’ll make progress, learn the fundamentals and give your body time to adapt to the demands of grappling.

At 3x per week, you’ll start to notice a real difference. You’re seeing positions more often, retaining more of what you learn and getting enough mat time to build momentum.

If getting better is a serious priority, 4–5x per week is where progress can really accelerate. More time on the mats means more situations experienced, more problems solved and more opportunities to sharpen your skills.

But there’s an important point:

More training doesn’t mean every session needs to be hard.

Some days you push the pace.
Some days you slow things down, experiment and learn.
Some days you simply show up and get the work in.

The biggest mistake isn’t training only 2–3 times a week.

It’s training 5 times one week… disappearing for two… then trying to make up for it.

Consistency beats intensity.

Find an amount of training you can realistically maintain, then build from there.

How many times a week are you currently training?

GIVE YOUR KIDS SOMETHING THEY CAN GROW WITH.

Jiu Jitsu is so much more than learning how to grapple.

It gives kids an opportunity to build confidence, resilience, coordination and problem solving skills all while exercising, having fun and making new friends.

They get challenged. They learn how to win and lose. They figure things out for themselves. And most importantly, they have a great time doing it! 💯

EVERYONE HAS A REASON ⬇️

We all step onto the mats for different reasons and sometimes the reason we stay ends up being completely different from the reason we started.

Maybe you walked through the doors wanting to get fit, learn how to defend yourself or try something new.

Then a few years down the track, you realise it’s the people, the community and being around your mates every week that keeps you coming back.

Everyone’s got their own reason, and we’d genuinely love to hear yours.

Why do you train?

Could be one word. Could be a whole story. We want to hear it 💯

Another Friday S&C done and dusted 👏

WHY S&C?

We want to stay as fit and healthy as possible all while having fun!

Nothing crazy HARD, no heavy lifting that’ll leave you more injured than when you came in.

It’s about general upkeep, maintenance & injury prevention.

Last week we spoke about if you don’t use it you lose it!
Super important for any age.

Want to stay strong and healthy?
finding a way to be able to train week in and week out without overloading is exactly how we can keep this up for life, and that’s the Goal!! 💪

PART II How to finish the snap,
Set up attacks and go behind’s.

Biggest mistake I see,
Guys will hit a snap to front head lock they are in a super strong position then they rush the go behind and not only lose the position but they BACKTRACK! Offering up underhooks to their opponent. 🤦‍♂️

FORCE THE HANDS TO THE GROUND.
Make sure they have weight on the hands if they can lift their arms there’s not enough weight going through the ground and when you go behind you’ll likely lose position.

Start focusing on this and not only will go behind’s become easier but attacks will be there too!

SNAP DOWNS FOR BEGINNERS. 😊

Two IMPORTANT details you must understand before you try a snap down.

1. Forward motion 2. Broken posture

Without these two details, a snap down is very unlikely.

So how do we create opportunities for snap downs keeping these two concepts in mind.

3 SET UPS

• Push & Pull
Push your opponent back to force forward momentum.

• Fake the leg
Attacks on the lead leg to create broken posture.

• Square up
Put your opponent into a square stance for an easy off balance.

Understand what makes a snap work, mix up your techniques to create the desired reaction, and boom!
You should see your self hitting far more successful snap downs!

Hopefully this was helpful 🤙
