SARC WEEK 70 - FATHER’S DAY.

Just a quick one before we start, being Father’s Day.

Today we celebrate the dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, mentors — and every man who has chosen to stand up and be there for someone else.

And we also acknowledge those who might be missing their dad today, those who have a complicated relationship with fatherhood, and those who hope to become a father one day.

For me, one of the biggest things fatherhood has taught me is that our kids don’t really listen to everything we say.

We can tell them what to do. We can lecture them. We can yell at them.

But more than anything — they watch us.

They watch how we behave.

They watch how we react in triumph, but more importantly, how we react through challenges, disappointment and stress.

They watch how we speak to our partners.
How we treat our parents.
How we treat strangers.

They watch whether we show kindness. Whether we show gratitude. How we carry ourselves when nobody is rewarding us for it.

And eventually, they start copying it.

So I think one of the greatest responsibilities we have as parents is understanding that we can’t just tell our kids the person we want them to become. We have to show them.

And there’s a saying that has always stuck with me:

The way you speak to your children becomes their inner voice when you’re no longer in the room.

That’s powerful.

Fatherhood has taught me to constantly try to become a better version of myself.

Not because I’m trying to be perfect. I’m definitely not.

But because I know I’m modelling to my kids what being a man, a partner, a father and just a good human being looks like.

I want to become better, because I want to model something better for them.

So whether you’re a dad already, a father figure, or hope to be one someday — remember there are people watching how you move through this world.

Be the person you hope they become.

Happy Father’s Day.

Serendipity. Here’s a dope moment. 💁‍♀️

I met Moo Ayumu Kurashima during TCS New York City Marathon week, actually met a bunch of Japanese runners from at the New Balance Running after party. They were dressed dope af haha Japanese just have effortless style.

Anyways, TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS rolls around and a couple dudes from Japan inbox me to link up while we’re out and about in Sydney. I met up with Moo at the Unofficial run club x New Balance shakeout. He told me he was coming to NZ after Sydney!

So here we are. Haha, first met in New York. Running brought us together. I had just ran my first ever marathon. Just started running. I went on to become a New Balance Running ambassador - and learned that Moo had been one for the last few years now. So thank you New York and thank you to New Balance for the connection. 🤝🤩

Serendipity. I think his NZ visit was meant to be. I didn’t enter the Tokyo ballot cos I felt like it’s a bit much with all the overseas events this year. He told me he owns a cafe in Tokyo and now I believe in some weird way that I’ll visit him there in March 2027 for 【Official】東京マラソン財団/TokyoMarathonFoundation. Here is me speaking it aloud, and starting the manifestasian process.

SO IF YOU SEE ANY TOKYO MARATHON BIB COMPETITIONS PLEASE SEND THEM MY WAY 😬🤣

Watch this space, pray for me. 🙏😌

MAJOR #2 🤩🥹

After experiencing all there is to a major marathon in New York last year - I was full of gratitude and all I thought of was man I wish the crew could feel all of this too. All I wanted was to share that experience with my crew. Let them feel all those feels of a major marathon. The shakeout runs leading up. The logistics of expo / bib pickup. The logistics of race morning and showing up hours before your start time. The pain cave of racing a marathon - hits different than an easy 30 or 50k at run club. It ain’t just waking up then showing up 20mins before your training run lol.

To live out this dream, was special. To win bibs for myself and do all that I could to get some of these boys over the line - f**k that felt sweet. Was a blessing to share these experiences with you all - we’ll always be bound by these memories now.

Grateful and fulfilled on another level. 🙏💛
