EXCITING AND IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Apples Rising Stars April 3-5 2026

It’s just under a month away so we need to get ready.

Leading up to the start of the 2026 NBL season,

We are happy to announce the inclusion of the 2026 Southland Sharks with Coach Jonathan Yim.

Starting on Friday 3rd at 12 noon with a full squad training followed by an Intersquad game on Saturday afternoon at 530pm.

All Rising Stars teams will be invited to a shared bbq dinner with the Sharks following the game around 7pm.

The Southland Sharks team will be courtside during Rising Stars to hangout and chat with and Coach Yim would love to meet our coaches and managers throughout the weekend as well.

My thanks goes out to Andrew Wheeler for his organisation and connections,
Wheels has been a part of the Sharks whanau since day one and has now moved here to Tāhuna Queenstown. This partnership has a long future here in our region.

The Southland Sharks will be kindly sponsored by Kawarau Hoops and Events Caffeine Injection and Central Lakes Basketball.

This is not the post that I thought I would ever have to make, but I’m heartbroken today to let you know that Zane Garr and his brothers Caleb and Ethan have lost their mum, and I have lost my forever mate.

Barb Garr, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, and we are devastated. She was our rock and safe space and we will miss her.

A celebration of her life will be held at Cromwell Presbyterian Church on Elspeth Street Tuesday 16th December from 130pm.

Any yarns you would like to share, please pm me over the weekend and will happily include these in my tribute to her on behalf of us all.

Farewell daring lady, on behalf of all of your players coaches and friends at Apples Basketball, we love you!
