Pleasant Point Senior Cricket Club Prizegiving 2026

Well, what a season of cricket it has been, I’d like to acknowledge the committee firstly for their commitment and hard work. To all the ground staff led by Graham for producing one of the best grounds in Canterbury Cricket.

To our JAB committee led by Ann Jones, it is fantastic to see so many Juniors coming through our club.
This season our Premier Men’s team played up in the Canterbury Country competition and ended up 3rd overall. A big thanks goes to Mike Otley for his vision and drive to get this going, also his coaching and organising of the team for the season. A 3rd in the competition was well above everyone’s expectations in our first year entered.

Our Local Seniors had a trying season but ended up in a Semifinal against Celtic.
It has been challenging at times to field 11 players each week and a huge Thank you must go to Latham Gibb for organising this team.
Our Presidents Team had mixed results as our Senior team had to use a few of their players each week and a Thank you to Lindsay Hewitson and Bevan Guthrie for driving this and sharing your knowledge of the game with our younger players.

Our Senior Girls had a lot of new faces this season as we had some players move out and play in various clubs throughout Canterbury Metro to further their pathways, which has been a fantastic opportunity for our young ladies.
Special Thanks to Jamie Linton who has spent many hours rolling pitches and coaching this team.

We had our prizegiving in late March before players headed off overseas or into their winter sports. A busy time of year to juggle with sports overlapping these days.
Prizegiving went as follows:
Premier Men Player of the Year William Sharp
Batter of the Year Lachie Munro
Bowler of the Year Ben Armstrong

Senior Men’s Player of the Year Latham Gibb
Batter of the Year Latham Gibb
Bowler of the Year Cameron Lundie

Presidents Player of Year Andy Elliott
Batter of Year Bevan Guthrie
Bowler of Year Duncan Blackstock

Senior Girl’s Batter of the Year Libby O’Connor
Bowler of the Year Leah Geary
Most Improved Ruby Brown
Most Valuable Player Amy Wilson

Most Outstanding Club Performance of the year was Dawson McCall with 5 for 21 including a Hat trick

Biggest Contribution to Club this year was a Joint effort from Will Sharp and Latham Gibb.

This year we also had new Centurions for our club
Will Sharp 100 games
William Harvey 100 games
Matt Brown 100 games
Latham Gibb 100 games

We also had several players achieve 150 Games
Bailey Dryden 150 Games
Liam Beck 150 Games
Adam Beck 150 Games
Cameron Lundie 150 Games

Having these players stick around and play for our Club over the years is true testimony to our player commitment and we are grateful to each of you for your support.

In addition, we also had several players in representative teams:

Will Sharp, Lachie Munro and Oliver Linton all played for the South Canterbury Men’s which had another great year getting a Hawke Cup challenge after winning all three of their round games.

Sophie Kelly U19 and U17 Canterbury Team and was also named in the Premier Women's Team of the Year, last week at the Christchurch Metro cricket awards.
Hannah Kidd U17 and U19 Canterbury, in addition at the Canterbury Cricket Association awards she earned U17 Batter of the Year and Players Player of the Year.
Camryn Linton U19 Canterbury

Bevan Guthrie New Zealand over 70s and Lindsay Hewitson manager of NZ over 70s

And an awesome achievement from Izzy Sharp making the White Ferns with games against Zimbabwe, South Africa, and a Tour of England.

Our club is very proud of you all.

So here is hoping for good cricket weather for next season with our pre-season starting in late September!

A fantastic competition for our Club to be part of.

🏏 PREMIER TEAM OF THE SEASON 🏏
Huge congratulations to the players selected in this year’s Premier Team of the Season, proudly supported by Ray White Morris & Co and Mortgage Mates.

This group delivered all summer long — consistency, impact, and big‑moment performances.

Opening the batting are Robbie Foulkes and leading run‑scorer Arshdeep Singh. Six‑hitting machine Harry Chamberlain locks in at 3.
The middle order of Taylor Holland, Leo Wilson, and Joe Williams brings flair and firepower.

If a wobble ever hits, Tim Gruijters and Jeremy Benton have the experience to steady the ship. Lachie Munro takes the gloves, while Austin Hamilton and Micah Campbell round out a seriously strong XI.

This side looks invincible with:
- batting depth right down to 11
- three quality spinners
- six seam options
(No contracted players)

A complete, balanced, dangerous lineup.

👏 Special shoutout to Tobias Delahunty, recognised as this season’s Promising Younger.

As the season finishes up for the premier team we would firstly like to thank all of the supporters for the effort that they have made to travel to each game. It has been amazing for our players to see a group of Point supporters on the sideline cheering them on. We would also like to thank our sponsors for supporting us throughout the season. A special mention to Murray and Selena Dryden for making and providing all of the lunches for our home games. As well as to Hamish and Liz Munro for all of their organising. We would also like to thank Graham Sharp, William Sharp and Jamie Linton for their upkeep of the grounds and making sure that the grounds always look pictureqe. I would also like to say a massive thank you to Coach Mike for all his work throughout the year. We would also to thank all of the teams we played this season for welcoming us into the competition!!

Have a great winter catch you all next season!! 👏
