What can we say about Smithers?
A proud Southlander who probably spends more time thinking about duck shooting than rugby… and that’s saying something.
Since arriving at Point, he’s transformed from a skinny little guy into what should probably be known as “Creatine Smith” after the amount of size he’s packed on.
On the field, Smithers tackles anything that moves with absolutely no regard for his own wellbeing. If you’re running his way, you’re getting introduced to the turf sooner rather than later. He’s also become the club’s unofficial lineout king, regularly getting up above the pack and making life difficult for the opposition.
Over 50 games, Smithers has become one of the most reliable Mud Dogs around. Week after week he turns up, puts his body on the line, does the hard work that often goes unnoticed, and gives everything for the jersey. The kind of player every team wants beside them.
Off the field, he’s genuinely one of the nicest blokes you’ll ever meet. Always up for a chat, always willing to help out, and a valued part of the club.
Rumour has it he retired from the Melbourne Storm to come and chase rugby glory with the Mud Dogs… we’re still waiting for confirmation on that one.
Congratulations on reaching 50 games for Pleasant Point, Smithers. Fifty games is a fantastic achievement and a testament to your commitment, loyalty, and dedication to the club. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed both on and off the field.
