We are proceeding with games today.

Weather forecast is better than previously displayed.

There will be a period or two of rain - bring a jacket, pack spare clothes in the car for after the game (inc socks & shoes).

Players can wear long sleeve/tights under their uniform in a neutral colour ie black or white as long as the bibs are visible.

It’s still reasonably warm with low wind.

PARENT SUPPORT IS SO IMPORTANT!

When we spoke to players about what they wanted sideline support to look like, they said: “Support and encourage both teams”, “Be kind! That’s someone’s child”, “Your words can affect how we play”, “Hype them up”.

It’s really easy to get caught up in the intensity of the game or competition, but often young people will respond and feed off our emotions.

We want them to stay composed and focused to perform, so creating environments that enable them to do that is key.

It’s also amazing how much more enjoyable it is to watch when you turn up without expectations about the outcome or how you want them to play!

Mostly, young people just want to know that they have your unconditional support, that you love them no matter what, and that you are proud of them. Give them your attention and your biggest smile!

Kia ora tatou,

A reminder that all rules & umpiring tips for NHV are available on our website (links below).

Our Netballhvumpires have created socials to help educate our community (players, coaches, umpires & spectators) so go give them a follow for more handy hints.

They are also running their community workshops starting tomorrow (Wednesday 27 May, 6.30pm start time) it would be good to attend these classes to ensure you are up to scratch with latest rulings and how to apply.

Key things to think about:
❌Jewellery (no taping of earrings, nose rings, belly button piercings etc.) - taonga (pounamu etc.) must be taped to the body (including strings) or removed.
🏐Contact & obstruction must be applied at year 5 to 8 (1m for year 5&6, 0.9m year 7&8).
🏐Held ball (5 seconds for year 5&6, 3 seconds for year 7&8).
🏐Non-scoring team in year 5&6 takes the next centre pass. Odds & evens system in play from year 7&8 upwards.
🏐Keep the goal line & sidelines clear for umpires (they control on court & along the lines - if they can't see they can't call).

There are a large number of safety risks when large numbers are attending the facility so remember:
❌Leave your pets behind.
❌No scooters, bikes, roller blades etc. within the facility - these can be left in your car or at home.
❌No filming/ photos unless you have sought permission from the opposition & both umpires. No permission = no filming.

LET’S KEEP SPORT FUN!
Our tamariki and rangatahi have enough to think about when they are playing, and coaches to help them when they need it. So, just let them play!

A POSITIVE SPORTING EXPERIENCE
We know that the top reasons young people play sport are to have fun, be with their friends, develop and learn new skills.

We also know that when coaches, officials and volunteers are recognised, supported and valued, they are much more likely to stay involved. It’s a responsibility on all of us to ensure that we are creating environments that prioritise fun and enjoyment, no matter the event, code or scoreline.

By challenging all those involved in sport to encourage ‘Positive Vibes Only’ as the new standard, we strive to lift the bar on what behaviours are acceptable in our youth sporting environments.

Positive Vibes Only is about creating environments that are enjoyable for all, whether you are a player, coach, referee, administrator or supporter.
