Bill flew with Ruby last week training for her Super Cub rating and future glider towing.

Ruby finished her CPL training in April at Southern Wings at Ardmore and was champing at the bit for her next step in her aviation career.

The AAF Type A-7 is a classic rotary magneto switch used widely in vintage aircraft like Piper Cubs

Does anyone happen to have an A-7 switch body or lever (the red bit in the photo) in their stash that we can beg, borrow or steal?

Bill had the pleasure of renewing Wayne Scott’s CPL BFR while also getting recurrent in the Super Cub after 20 years away flying charters on air ambulance and charter duties, then corporate flying a Falcon 50 tri-jet.

When comparing notes turns out we had crossed paths during RNZAF service and later in Air NZ. Bill was on the A320 at the time while Wayne was in Flight Dispatch issuing Flight Plans to the domestic fleet, then on the International desk.

Wayne also took the opportunity to sample some strips and revise his Mountain Flying skills. Almost too easy in the current spell of nice weather with light winds.

Lloyd and Bill paused for lunch at Raglan during Lloyd’s Cub rating and CPL BFR. Lloyd started his Cub rating a year ago but didn’t get the chance to finish it prior to going to Aussie for a seasonal job.

Weather the last two days have been a mix of showers and wind which has given Lloyd an ideal introduction to taildragging. 😀

Russell Thorne came down from Auckland Gliding Club for his BFR with Bill today in BTC and for an introduction to strip flying.

Bill has two strips available for use, one level but with minor undulations, and one with gentle slope but still a challenge.

Russell owns his own homebuilt Carbon Cub but enjoys the vintage feel of the Supercub too and he passed with flying colours.

Ashleigh came to fly with Bill & Liv this week as she wanted to increase her Tailwheel hours to become a glider tow pilot. We added to the fun factor with an introduction to strip flying.

Ashleigh flew to a high standard and completed her Cub rating today.

Have fun flying the Pawnee Ashleigh! Glider towing is such great experience to grow your skills.

Murray Mc Farlane came with Bill for a birthday flight yesterday. Murray is a longtime Topdressing pilot, learning to fly in Super Cubs at Waikato Aero Club under Lou Valiant and later time spent in the Waikato topdressing so we went to a couple of Bill’s favourite airstrips south east of Hamilton to reminisce. Murray spent time topdressing in Piper Pawnees, the ubiquitous Fletcher and latterly Air Tractors. Murray’s partner Glenise watched on as Murray flew his celebration flight.

Melody went for a Trial Flight this morning with Bill in BTC. She did really well understanding the theory of flight and has a good feel on the controls. Onwards and upwards Mel.

After a few weeks delay with weather and life Julian Elder finally got the chance yesterday to do his Bristell NG5 rating with Bill at Matamata. Well done Julian and thanks for your patience 😀 A challenging day to test all your skills 😀
