Darfield Rugby Football Club Sports Club Darfield Rugby Club is situated in Darfield, a rural Canterbury town 40 kilometers from Christchurch.

We are a typical New Zealand country rugby club, drawing players from the surrounding rural areas. We have a long and proud history of involvement in both our community and our national game at all levels - junior and senior club level, and supply many players to Ellesmere, Canterbury County and Canterbury representative teams. We are the largest club in the Malvern area, and one of the biggest in Ellesmere, which is a sub union of the Canterbury Rugby Union.

Junior Team Of The Week

Year 3 Blue
The Year 3 Blue team is a great group of kids to be representing the club.
Being the first year of tackle, the team have trained closely with the year 3 Red team to build the tackling confidence.
It’s been great to see the confidence building across the team as well as the increasing skills like passing near to contact and offloading in contact.
Most importantly, the players are enjoying the game with plenty of smiles on the faces and friendships building.

Our Division 2 side went down in a hard-fought contest against Lincoln.

The boys stayed in the fight all game and kept themselves within striking distance, but a few costly errors at key moments allowed Lincoln to pull away.

Congratulations to Lio Afano on reaching 100 club games for Darfield Rugby Club!

Lio first arrived at Darfield in 2017 and has been a big part of our division 2 side. Known for his strong carries and rock-solid defence.

When he's not pulling on the boots himself, you'll find Lio giving back to the game by helping coach his daughter's rugby team. He's just as dependable off the field as he is on it and is a genuinely valued member of our club and community.

Congratulations on this outstanding milestone, Lio. Thank you for everything you've contributed to the Darfield Rugby Club over the years.

Year One Yellow Rugby Team
The Year One Yellow Rugby Team continues to impress as a group of talented and developing young players. From their first games of the season to now, the team has shown remarkable growth, improving in leaps and bounds each week. Their performances consistently reflect the core values of the Darfield Rugby Club. D.A.R.F: Drive, Attitude, Respect, and Fun.
We would like to extend appreciation to the parents and supporters of the team. Your ongoing commitment, from attending trainings to supporting the team on game days, plays a vital role in the success and enjoyment of our players.

Premier Men Report
The Darfield Senior Men have fallen just short in a thrilling Combined Competition Semi-Final against Kaiapoi Rugby Club.
After trailing 22–7 at halftime, Darfield dug deep and showed tremendous character to fight their way back into the contest. Refusing to give in, the boys produced an outstanding second-half performance, scoring crucial points and eventually levelling the scores at 29–29 as full time sounded.
With neither side able to be separated, the match headed into two 10-minute periods of extra time. The intensity remained high as both teams threw everything they had at each other in search of a place in the final.
In the end, it was a single Kaiapoi penalty that proved the difference, with the hosts edging out a 32–29 victory to book their place in the final.
While the result didn't go Darfield's way, the team can be incredibly proud of their effort, resilience, and determination to fight back from a significant deficit and take the game right to the wire.

Div 2 Report
Division 2 travelled down the road to face local rivals Kirwee Rugby Club on their Club Day, with a strong crowd on hand for the local derby. As expected, the match was played with plenty of intensity and passion from both sides.
Kirwee's pace and power saw them take an early lead, putting Darfield under pressure from the outset. Darfield responded well at times, putting together some strong attacking phases and showing plenty of determination. However, any errors were quickly punished by a clinical Kirwee side, who capitalised on opportunities and continued to build scoreboard pressure throughout the match.
Despite Darfield's efforts, Kirwee ran in a number of tries to take control of the contest and secure a 55–10 victory.
