Darfield Rugby Football Club

Darfield Rugby Football Club Sports Club Darfield Rugby Club is situated in Darfield, a rural Canterbury town 40 kilometers from Christchurch.

We are a typical New Zealand country rugby club, drawing players from the surrounding rural areas. We have a long and proud history of involvement in both our community and our national game at all levels - junior and senior club level, and supply many players to Ellesmere, Canterbury County and Canterbury representative teams. We are the largest club in the Malvern area, and one of the biggest in Ellesmere, which is a sub union of the Canterbury Rugby Union.

What a fantastic group of boys and girls that are making this an awesome season full of fun, teamwork, and plenty of smiles. The team has grown so much already, working together on the field, supporting one another, and showing great sportsmanship every week.

Along the way, they're building strong friendships and are creating memories that will last a lifetime. It's been wonderful to see their individual confidence and teamwork develop as they learn and play together.

A special thank you to our amazing coaches, Geoff and Jason, and Manager Emma for their time, enthusiasm, and dedication to helping the team grow.

Premier Men Report
Darfield advance to the semi final with 35-26 win over Ohoka at home. Darfield booked their place with a hard-fought win. The conditions suited Darfield’s forward pack, who laid a strong platform throughout the afternoon. Harrison Groundwater grabbed a double, while the rest of the side contributed to a well-rounded team performance. Big lock Hamish Dalzell was outstanding, carrying strongly and making his presence felt around the park, while plenty of others put in big shifts to help secure the result. Credit must also go to Ohoka, whose willingness to run the ball from anywhere on the field and ability to hold possession for long periods kept Darfield under pressure throughout the match.
The day was made even more special with club favourite, Colin Payne celebrating his 100th game.
The boys travel to Kiapoi this Saturday for their first semifinal of the combined comp in well over a decade.

Div 2 Report
Darfield div 2 went down to a strong BDI/Leeston team at Darfield on Saturday. BDI started strong scoring early tries and putting Darfield under pressure. Darfield came back and scored four good attacking tries but our defence let us down and BDI scored some late try’s to seal the game 24-55.

Colts Report
The Darfield colts travelled to Prebbleton on Saturday. The lads made the most of what possession they had to get out to a 19-7 halftime lead. Most of the second half was spent defending and Prebbleton got out to a 21-19 lead with 10 minutes to go. The lads picked themselves up and managed a late converted try to sn**ch the win 26-21. Certainly not their best match but crucial points obtained to go to 4th on the table.

Congratulations to Colin Payne on reaching his 100th Division One game for Darfield Rugby Club.

The Payne Train first pulled on the Darfield jersey in 2014. It was also his introduction to the front row, having previously played at second five-eighth and number 8.

After spending a few seasons back at his original club, Kirwee, Colin returned to Darfield in 2019 and has been a key part of the club ever since. A true stalwart of the front row, he has played a major role in Darfield's success over the past five years.

Reaching 100 Division One games is a significant achievement and a testament to the dedication Colin has shown to the club.

Congratulations on the milestone, Colin. Good luck for your 100th game and go well.
