The river wins again -- it has flooded our site and left a whole heap of mud to clear away after the heavy rain up-country at the weekend. Thankfully the water wasn't up to the shed level, and an early morning team managed to get all the coach boats and mowers up into the safety of the shed. Excellent effort at 7am on a working day.
But we'll have to wait for the water to drain away and the ground to dry before we can get in to shovel away the mud off the concrete area. Maybe then we can think about getting boats back on to the water.
This keeps happening, but it's the reality of being based beside a river that has a habit of flooding.

All loaded (in the dark) after a weekend of racing at the South Island Masters champs at Lake Rotoiti. Thanks to the Nelson Rowing Club for organising and all the volunteers and supporters who made it a successful weekend. Shame about the wind on Sunday but the delay wasn’t too long and the rowers enjoyed those final sprints over the shortened course. The BRC came home happy, with medals to polish and good memories of another great club weekend away. It’s the cooperation, chill attitude and friendly support for each other that makes it so worthwhile. Until next time … back to training for the Nationals.

Returning the hospitality: Great to have a couple of guests from the York Rowing Club with us this morning, meeting up again with BRC members Sarah Lissaman and Shane Rohloff, who rowed at York while they were in the UK last year. Arnie Mander and Karen Hardwick were in that boat last year, and this time Arnie and his wife Julia rowed on the Wairau River with Geoff Boyce and Sarah. In the photo (from left) are Geoff, Julia, Sarah amd Arnie. Karen has also been a guest at the BRC a couple of times. It's really good to be able to return the hospitality. The world masters rowing community is such a friendly and welcoming bunch of people.

Notice of SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING: There will be a Special General Meeting of the Blenheim Rowing Club on Sunday, 1 March 2026 at (approximately) 10:30am, immediately after rowing. The purpose of the meeting is to ratify the club's draft constitution. We need to do this in order to maintain our incorporated society status, and to comply with new legislation. A copy of the draft constitution will be loaded on to the club website at blenheimrowing.co.nz next week so those who wish to can read and review the document before the SGM on 1 March.

It wasn't the best weather but the river conditions were great on Thursday when we were joined by two visiting rowers - Yasmina Langevin, who rows out of clubs at Versailles and Toulon, in France, and Cynthia Lund from Station L club on the Willamette River at Portland, Oregon in the US. We always enjoy it when visiting rowers join us in a crew. Last week we welcomed Robet Lee, from Boston, who enjoyed his time on the Wairau River with us.
Any masters rowers visiting Marlborough, please get in touch so we can get you in a crew while you are here.
The picture is of (from left) club president Pete Adams, Yasmina Langevin, of France, Cynthia Lund, of the US, and Sarah Lissaman. They made up a quad for a 10km row on Thursday night.

This BRC post-novice crew of Nancy, Wilma, Nikki and Jace heads out for a race at the Marlborough Champs regatta on Saturday. Thanks to Wenz Pics for the image. The club had a few crews on the water during the weekend, but most members were involved in officials roles, helping the regatta run smoothly and without any major incidents. Thanks to everyone who helped, rowed, supported and spectated. It was another great weekend.
