A pretty good strike of grass on the baselines!
The rest of the courts have great grass coverage...
Really looking forward to see how they play in 3/4 months time.

Last season was the most tennis we have ever had on the courts and this next one should be even more!

Remember to get in touch with the club for everything from social and competitive play, to coaching and events.

Great article on Ella... Hopefully she is back to defend her trophy at our Wairau River new years doubles tournament!

The tournament is already online and open for entry!
With the grass court swing in Europe just coming into play it's a great time to make plans for your own grass experience!

The 19-year-old, two years into a four-year tennis scholarship with Lander University, in South Carolina, USA, was recently back home in Blenheim for a couple of weeks, catching up with friends and family.

It's been a very busy month of May for the club despite having our closing day over the Anzac weekend!

A few of us went down to Timaru for the Aoraki Open. Such a great level of tennis there! Really worth the 12 hours in the car as they have an amazing facility there! πŸŒ…

The after school coaching has been all around wherever we can go this term and it has worked out brilliantly so far. We have 100 kids this term which is double last winter terms. QCC & MGC courts Monday, Spring Creek and St Mary's Tuesday. Renwick Wednesday, St Mary's and MGC Thursday and Spring Creek Friday. A big thanks to all students, parents for signing up and the schools for enabling this to happen! πŸ’ͺ

Our doubles league has started again, with a Sat morning session and a Sunday after lunch time one for people to play. This is mainly for social players and those that are just learning to play games and has been really enjoyable and beneficial for our newbies 😁

We have also just had a day of serious matchplay for our competitive members young and old.
Just a couple of days ago we had 15 matches played under tournament conditions. This was well supported with some really good tennis being played! 🎾
The admin for this event was expertly executed by Jo and her 2 apprentices Rae and Phoebe, while in the middle of a farm trip!πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

And of course all this happened while the new grass was growing!
Phoebe gave it its first cut and the plan is to knock the top off it every couple of weeks through the winter to help it get established and thicken up for late September! 🌱

Last thing is we have a couple of away trips planned in July!
First is July 12 not so far away in Renwick for the walker cup challengeπŸ†
The second is to Christchurch to visit the Burwood club!
After their visit to Rapaura in late March we are going to see them on the last weekend of July.
Games on Saturday the 25th!

We have about 10-12 confirmed for each of these events so far so just looking for that extra half dozen!! Let's go !!

Awesome report from Pete Jones!
We are so lucky to have Tomi. He has made so many friends at Rapaura already!
Helping all members fall further in love with the great game of tennis!! 🎾🎾

It is a long way from the clay courts of Buenos Aires to the grass courts of Rapaura - but Tomas Lupani Stewart-Usher is more than happy he made the journey.

Another top notch job from Steve and Suzanne at Lawn Care Solutions, Marlborough ....
Just finishing up today preparing the courts for the rain forecast for the end of the week!
Coring, spraying, leveling, seeding.... All looking great!

Hopefully we get a great strike of grass and will be mowing again in June.

This process has really been key to get stronger grass with deeper roots to have it last the almost 7 months of intensive tennis in our season...

The Aoraki Open in Timaru is coming up in a couple of weeks!
It's an awesome tournament and facility there and well worth the trip....
Four of us members and one former member based in Otago are going!

It is graded and open for all ages!

Just in case it sounds like a good option, entries close next Wednesday night.

A pretty epic closing day!
Amazing level of tennis from Logan and Tomas entertaining everyone while we had a great BBQ lunch!
Well done to Tomas for his 6-1 6-3 victory... it was closer than that score though!
Then prize giving for the season... Well done to all our club champs winners and also our social weekend warriors awards...
Great stuff Jana for winning our first Sunday league competition in 30 years!
Fang a close runner up and Ryan winning the trophy for the juniors!
The Mark Evans trophy went to Tony for his efforts getting to every Sat social possible.... even when on one leg!

After the prize giving we had a 32 draw in a one point slam....
Some awesome upsets in there and everyone enjoyed it so much we decided to do another! Glen and Tomas sneaking the wins...
There is some thought about making that a regular Sat thing before club day as it doesn't take very long obviously....

Then Jo pulled out the gear for a classic relay race...
Everyone really into it which makes for some great fun!!

Thanks to everyone who made today really special!!
Heaps of laughs with the club spirit in full display.

Closing day is this Sunday from 1pm with a BBQ lunch and hopefully a club champs singles final to watch between 2 big guns of the club, Tomas and Logan.
The courts haven't really been played on in anger for a couple of weeks while these wintery conditions have been dominant...
They are a little back yardish now so Phoebe is helping roll them out!

We have lots of fun games planned like last year, a one point slam or 2 and of course our season prize giving!
It should be an awesome afternoon!
Especially with the sun out and light winds bringing some heat!!
