Botany Swarm

Official page of the Botany Swarm, an ice hockey team based in Auckland, New Zealand. Buzz buzz! 🐝

The Botany Swarm is a team in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League. It is based in Auckland, New Zealand and was founded in 2005 as the South Auckland Swarm. Their name was changed prior to the 2007 season due to it being similar to some of the other teams and to better reflect the area in Auckland where their home rink located. Botany Swarm are the 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 NZIHL champions.

One slightly overambitious social media guy. One big idea. And a whole lot of people who jumped in to make it happen. 🐝

The goal? Give the Botany Swarm locker room at Paradice Botany a much-needed makeover and create something special for both the team and the wider hockey community.

After a tough season, I wanted the boys to have something to look forward to. A fresh space, a fresh start, and a new season to chase that cup in 2027. 🏆

What started as a crazy idea quickly became a massive project, and I couldn’t have done it without the friends, the team, and the incredible tradies from our hockey community (you’ll meet them in Part 2 👀).

And, of course, a massive thank you to our absolute angel who sponsored the makeover and helped bring the whole vision to life. ❤️

This project has been a reminder of just how special the hockey community in NZ is. People showing up, getting stuck in, and giving their time to make something happen for others.

I’m bloody proud of what we’ve achieved together.

Part 2 coming soon… and that’s where the real tradies take over. 😂🔨 👨🏼‍🎨

SWARM MVP for 2026!

NATHAN HUFNAGEL -

Nate consistently brings intensity, reliability and leadership every time he steps on the ice. As a defenceman, Nate does the hard work that doesn’t always show up on the scoresheet-shutting down opposition attacks, setting up plays and giving the team confidence from the back end. His commitment, physicality and willingness to put the team first make him one of the most valuable players in the Swarm locker room this season

The swarm couldn't take home the wins over this weekend and that marks the end of our season 💔. An unfortunate end but we played hard until the end.

Much love to all the fans for your support throughout the entire year 🫶. Let's bring back the hype next season and keep The Hive buzzing 🐝.

We shake it off and reset for next weekend.
