Remembering Peter King

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of longtime Pakuranga Athletic Club member Peter King, who passed away on Wednesday 21 October.

Peter and his late wife Coral had a long association with the club, dating back to the early days of our Harrier section, with their daughters Lisa and Cindy also involved in athletics.

Although work commitments took Peter and Coral away from the club for a number of years, they remained part of the Pakuranga Athletic Club family.

Peter later rejoined our Joggers and Walkers section, where he enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of fellow members. Many will remember Peter behind the BBQ at our annual Joggers and Walkers gatherings, keeping everyone well fed!

Our sincere condolences go to Lisa, Cindy and the wider King family. Peter will be fondly remembered by his many friends at Pakuranga Athletic Club.

Funeral details: Thursday 29 October, 11.30am, St Columba Church, Ti Rakau Drive.

Rest in peace, Peter. ❤️

🎃👻 THE FIRST RIBBON DAY OF THE SEASON – WITH A HALLOWEEN TWIST!

We're kicking off the 2026/27 Ribbon Day season with a spook-tacular day of athletics, ribbons, prizes and FUN at Pakuranga Athletic Club!

📍 Yvette Williams Track, Lloyd Elsmore Park
⏰ 10 am – 2:30 pm (group warm-up at 9:50 am)

* Entry is free - and no pre-registration needed
* Events for 5–14 year olds
* Fun activities for 2–4 year olds
* Bouncy castles, coffee van, tuckshop and BBQ!

Grab your family and friends, bring your club spirit and get ready for a fantastic first Ribbon Day of the season!

All returning JT&F club members - make sure you register by 10 PM TONIGHT to be ensure your name is on the roll and we have your age patch ready for you tomorrow - www.pakurangaathletics.co.nz

Registrations are very welcome anytime (we don't close our registrations) but you will need to wait until next Wednesday for your age patch and to be included on the roll if you miss the 10 pm deadline.

New families are welcome to join us for two free trial nights before registering. No need to pre-register; just turn up and join in the fun (2-6s at 4:45 pm; 7 years + at 5:45 pm).

WOW – What a fantastic Have A Go Morning!

We absolutely loved seeing so many local families at the track today, with lots of enthusiastic young athletes giving track and field a go.

A HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers who made it all happen. Pakuranga Athletic Club is 100% volunteer-run, and days like today simply wouldn't be possible without these wonderful people.

How awesome are our local young people?!

What a fantastic afternoon we've had training our amazing student volunteers, who will be helping out at our Junior Club Nights this season.

The enthusiasm, energy and willingness to get involved was incredible! Everyone threw themselves into the activities, learned some new skills, had plenty of laughs and enjoyed getting to know one another.

A huge shout-out to Kelly from Athletics NZ and Michael from Athletics Auckland for leading the coaching component of today's training. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping our volunteers feel confident and ready for the season ahead.

And a MASSIVE thank you to our student volunteers! It's pretty special to have over 100 young people from our local community willing to give up their own time to help younger athletes learn, develop their skills and, most importantly, have fun. We are incredibly lucky to have you.

For any families still thinking about joining Pakuranga Athletic Club this season - this is just one example of the fantastic people who make our club such a great place for children to be. Our Junior Club Nights are all about having fun, making friends, learning new skills and giving athletics a go in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Our first Club Night is Wednesday 14 October. We can't wait to see our wonderful volunteers in action. Bring on the 2026/27 track and field season!
