This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the amazing volunteers who help make Living Springs such a special place.

Meet Emma, who has been volunteering as a Kids Camp Leader for around four years. Emma first became involved after being invited by the legendary Camp Mum, Kath Shikker, and she's been part of the Kids Camp community ever since.

"What keeps me coming back is making connections with the kids and seeing them grow over each camp. I've also made incredible connections with leaders, and it's amazing creating new ones each camp."

Volunteering has helped Emma grow in confidence and step into leadership opportunities she may not have taken otherwise.

"I've always loved leading but was often too nervous to do it. Kids Camp has helped me step out of comfort zones in multiple areas of my life, which has been amazing growth for me."

For Emma, the Living Springs community feels like home.
"Every time I go there it's so friendly and welcoming. It feels like a big family that I always miss."

One of the highlights of Emma's volunteering journey has been seeing the impact camp can have on others, including helping her brother get involved as a leader and watching him grow through the experience as well.

Her advice to anyone considering volunteering?
"Just do it!"

Thank you, Emma, for the energy, encouragement, and care you bring to every camp. We're grateful for the difference you make in the lives of our campers and leaders.

Great work everyone! πŸ‘ Our Tracks are open again!!

A sincere thank you to the Christchurch Singletrack Club and all those who have contributed their time and effort to getting the trails back into shape. The local mountain biking community is incredibly fortunate to have people willing to roll up their sleeves and make this happen.

This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who help make Living Springs a place where young people can grow, connect, and belong.

Meet Mika, who has been volunteering with Living Springs for over four years as a Kids Camp Leader.

Mika's journey started as a Trailblazer camper, and today she is helping create those same life changing experiences for the next generation.

"I've loved making an impact on campers' lives. I've loved meeting new campers and building relationships with returning campers. I had leaders growing up who made me who I am today, and I've loved the opportunity to be that for someone else."

Through volunteering, Mika has developed leadership skills, grown in confidence, and challenged herself beyond her comfort zone.

"It's taught me a lot about myself and what I am capable of. I've been able to push myself outside of my comfort zone, reach goals, and praise God through it all."

For Mika, the Living Springs community has been a place of encouragement, growth, and belonging.

"I've met people who have had such a significant impact on me. I've always felt welcomed and supported, and I've been able to grow into a better leader every camp."

Thank you, Mika, for the passion, compassion, and leadership you bring to Living Springs. We are grateful for the impact you have on our campers and community.

Kia ora everyone,

Living Springs is hosting our next volunteer day 18th June, and we would love your help.

Last session, we successfully removed the remainder of an old fence that was no longer needed. A huge thank you to Hannah, Trevor, Peter, Graham, and Jamie for tackling the dense vegetation and steep hillsides to get the job done.

This time, we'll be turning our attention to the butterfly nursery. We will be weeding around the young plants that were established last year to create habitat for New Zealand's native butterflies. The nursery is still in its early stages, and regular maintenance is helping these plants thrive as we work towards introducing copper butterflies in the future.

Kia ora everyone,
Living Springs is hosting our next volunteer day, and we would love your help.

Last session, we made great progress improving a track used by school groups and volunteer trappers. James, our track builder, will be checking out the work this week and helping us plan the final stages of the project.

This time, our focus will be removing the remainder of an old fence we started dismantling a few weeks ago. This involves cutting and removing fencing wire from the environment, improving access to a nearby track and trap line, and creating space for winter planting.

Our next Living Springs volunteer day is happening tomorrow, and we would love your help.

Last session, we continued building a wheelchair friendly track through the young tōtara trees planted by children living with cancer. The track will allow children and their families to return over the years and see how much their trees have grown, representing growth, strength, and resilience.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along last week. We had our biggest turnout so far, and the energy and enthusiasm made a real difference.

Tomorrow, we will be rerouting a section of track after a slip damaged part of the existing route. Our goal is to create a safer long term track for school groups and trappers to use before winter fully sets in.

Loved hosting the talented team from Cashmere High School for their Production Camp at Living Springs 🌱

From singing and dancing to full cast and orchestra rehearsals, it was wonderful to see Big Fish come together over a busy and creative few days. Camps like these are such a great way for groups to connect, create, and fully immerse themselves in their project.

Thanks for spending your camp with us, and break a leg for opening night in a few weeks β˜€οΈ
