Who knew an old tennis net could look THIS good?! 😍

We were stoked to donate an unrepairable tennis net to Junk to Funk 2026 on Waiheke Island — and now it’s been given a whole new life as this incredible tennis ball-inspired wearable art dress! 🎾💚

Junk to Funk 2026 Waiheke is all about turning waste into something wonderful, and we love seeing our old tennis gear reimagined in such a creative way!

🎾 WELCOME BACK, JAKE THOMPSON! 🎾

We’re thrilled to announce Jake Thompson as Tennis Northern’s new Tennis Manager! 👏

Jake is a passionate coach who is dedicated to developing aspiring tennis players both on and off the court. He believes tennis is a powerful tool for creating independent, inquisitive minds who embrace challenge and strive to reach their potential.

With a strong focus on tactical play, player development and maintaining a healthy relationship with sport, Jake brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. His coaching journey has included Tennis Northern, Albany Tennis Park, Ngataringa Tennis Club, Sparta Tennis Academy, Lavie Tennis Academy and Tennis New Zealand, where he has also worked as a Coach Educator.

Jake has coached and led a number of junior programmes, including the Tennis Northern 12U team, 7U and 9U academies at Albany Tennis Park, and the 9U academy at Lavie Tennis Academy.

After years of contributing to tennis across the region, we’re excited to welcome Jake back to Tennis Northern, where he’ll help build on our vision of creating a leading environment for players, coaches and clubs.

14U Kiwi Indoor Championships 🎾🏆

What an incredible week at the 14U Kiwi Indoor Championships — the third Tier 1 event of the year!

Tennis Northern was strongly represented, with our boys’ team featuring Hunter Pang, Ryann Wang, Noah Jones, Sam James, Chad Taylor and Jack Yan, while the girls’ team included Hazel Choi, Kira Brukvina and Emily Chen.

We had some amazing results across both singles and doubles:

🏆 Hunter Pang — Boys’ 14U Singles Champion
🥉 Kira Brukvina — Girls’ 14U Singles, 3rd Place
🥈 Hazel Choi — Girls’ Doubles Finalist
🥈 Sam James & Chad Taylor — Boys’ Doubles Finalists
🎾 Hunter Pang & Ryann Wang — Boys’ Doubles Semi-Finalists

A fantastic achievement from all our Tennis Northern players, competing against some of the best 14U players from around the country. Most of the players are working closely with Tennis Northern Academy coach Jeff Simpson, whose support and guidance continue to play an important role in their development.

These results are a great reflection of the players’ hard work, commitment and teamwork, as well as the support from their coaches, families and the wider Tennis Northern Academy programme. 👏

Chris has played a huge part in the growth and development of Tennis Northern, from major improvements at Forrest Hill and Albany Tennis Park to strengthening our clubs, facilities and tennis community across the region.
