Dansateliers Crew

Dansateliers Crew Dansateliers, situated in the center of Rotterdam (The Netherlands), is a professional dance space for research and development in contemporary dance.

Dansateliers is a house for the development of contemporary dance in Rotterdam, NL. We offer the possibility for emerging dance makers to research and investigate in their search for their identity as a creative dance artist and their signature as the author of an artwork. In our opinion it is crucial to give space to Research and Development to further develop and eventually innovate an art form.

Every maker who will be working under our umbrella is actively seeking to push boundaries, to turn existing forms inside out and to find the edges of the discipline. Our studio is a place for dance professionals and audiences to meet, greet and work. We organise weekly open movement classes for non-professionals, which gives them the opportunity to work with the dance artists who are working on their research project. Incidentally we organise jams and workshops.

👀Searching for a place where the dance community can connect and exchange? Second Base at Dansateliers might be the place for you!

We have started counting down at Dansateliers for Second Base! 😍✨

Together with our invited speakers, Rosa Brinks and Dave Schwab, we invite makers who are interested, curious, or questioning to join us for this Second Base edition focusing on the topic: How to sell your show or performance 🎭

As promised a little bit about our invited speaker, Dave Schwab:

Dave Schwab is the Head of Programming at Theater Rotterdam and a dramaturg. He began his career as a creator at the former Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam, where he was part of the first generation of creators to develop their craft within a production company. At the time, Lantaren/Venster was a leading pioneering venue for contemporary dance, theater, performance, and new artistic developments.

As a theater director, Dave collaborated in an interdisciplinary manner with choreographers, filmmakers, and musicians from the very beginning. During this period, he worked with Michael Matthews and Ping Chong, among others - one of the first generations of performing artists from New York.

Later, he became the artistic director of Dance & Theater at Lantaren/Venster, after which he moved to the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, now known as Theater Rotterdam.

Don’t wait any longer and join us for a cup of soup and a good chat! 💬 👀

🫂What does it mean to recover, reclaim, or re-perform gestures that are deemed undesirable?

This is one of the many questions artist Marta Wörner Sarabia is asking with her research. 🌿

Marta Wörner Sarabia is a performance artist with a background in film and choreography. Her practice dissolves the boundary between art and everyday life, creating counter-spectacular, site-responsive works where mundane gestures become spaces of shared vulnerability, attention, and resistance. ✨

Marta and her work Ungainly Movements are part of the double bill with Aerowaves artist Inka Romaní 🤩

On Sunday, September 20, we have a double bill with a film (by Marta) and performance (by Inka) followed by a conversation between Inka and Marta and a Q&A. 💬🍵

📣For this evening, we have the option for our community to have a social arrival with the possibility to engage with Marta’s archival research, or an embodied arrival where you can join Inka and Marta for a bodily warm-up.

Do you choose the social or embodied arrival? ❤️

Join us on Sunday, September 20 at Dansateliers - get your tickets via the link in our bio! 🔗🎟️

👀 Only a few more weeks left before our September Second Base gathering! And it’s high time to tell you more about our speakers for this edition. 🔥

With the fall season open for theatre selections, this would be the perfect time to learn more about sales in the Netherlands for your performances. 🎭

Together with our invited speakers Rosa Brinks and Dave Schwab, we will dive deeper into this topic and answer your questions. ✨

A little bit about our invited speaker Rosa Brinks:

Rosa fell in love with dance at age 12 through Introdans. After earning a degree in General
Cultural Studies with a focus on Theater and Dance Studies and a master’s degree in Arts
Policy and Management (plus an unfinished second master’s in Theater Studies), she began working at Het Nationale Theater and Meervaart upon graduating in 2014.

In 2017, she joined Maas Theater en Dans, where she spent eight years handling bookings for national and international tours in-house and was part of the programming team for Maaspodium. In 2024, she joined Frontaal, which she took over on January 1, 2026, and is now responsible for sales for all affiliated companies and artists.

Stay tuned for our second speaker! 😍 Get your tickets for Second Base via our website.

📽️ Ever wondered how archives and movement come together? We have something great coming up at Dansateliers!

On Sunday, September 20, Aerowaves artist Inka Romaní and Rotterdam-based Marta Wörner Sarabia will combine their research and practice for a double bill at Dansateliers. Inka and Marta share a fascination with inherited movement aesthetics and the fascist archives in Spain. 🇪🇸📹 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️

They will meet each other for the first time in Rotterdam to exchange with each other’s work. 🔥

For this special moment, Dansateliers is opening the house for anyone who is curious to meet these two makers and see their work. ✨🥂

For the main program, we have a combination of film and performance followed by a conversation between Inka and Marta, and a Q&A. 💭🍿

On Sunday, September 20, Inka will be presenting her performance Volvamos al baile, and Marta will be presenting research from her project Ungainly Movements.

Good news just keeps coming! Anthology by Andreas has received a 5 star review in the Volkskrant. We are super proud to share this news and cannot wait for you to see Anthology yourself.

Vooral Anthology van choreograaf Andreas Hannes zwiept de kijker ongelooflijk opgewekt de zaal uit, met het voornemen weer vaker te huppelen. ★★★★★

It is especially Anthology by choreographer Andreas Hannes that sends the audience out of the theatre on a wave of joy, resolved to skip more often. ★★★★★
