IT’S NOT ALL BEACHES. FAR FROM IT.

The Liberation Trail takes you through the surprisingly varied landscape of Normandy: along the D-Day beaches, over cliffs and gravel tracks, and through the bocage – a maze of small fields, sunken lanes and narrow trails enclosed by thick hedgerows. One moment you’re running with open views across the coast, the next you’re climbing through a sheltered green corridor. It’s this constant change of landscape, terrain and history that makes every stage a different adventure.

Three days on the trails of Normandy. One experience that stays with you long after you cross the finish. Liberation Trail is about moving through a landscape that changed history. Along beaches, cliffs, fields and villages where freedom was fought for in 1944.

 The distance is yours to cover, the experience is shared. Along the way, history becomes more than something you read about. You stand where it happened, hear the stories behind the places and experience Normandy step by step.

Roy Stevens had one last chance to shake his twin brother’s hand.
He didn’t take it.

Before D-Day, Ray offered his hand to his twin brother Roy. He said: 'No, there's no need for. We’ll shake hands when we meet again in Vierville.'

They never did.

Roy survived the landing at Omaha Beach. Ray was killed on D-Day. Days later, Roy returned to the beach and found his brother’s grave. He would later say: 'I wish now I had shaken his hand...'

It’s these small, personal stories that make history real.

Before every stage of Liberation Trail 2027, Herco, our historyteller, brings the landscape to life with a story connected to the ground you’re about to run through.

Then you run it.

THE LIBERATION TRAIL CAN BE MORE THAN THREE DAYS IN NORMANDY.

For some, the real challenge starts long before the start line.

If you’re looking for a coaching journey alongside your preparation for the Liberation Trail, we work with several partners who can help you turn the event into a bigger personal or team challenge.

One of them is Stapin.nu, led by Jan-Paul Klein Poelhuis . Or another programm led by . Both finishers of the Liberation Trail. Their programmes combine coaching, personal development and physical challenges, with the Liberation Trail as a powerful goal to work towards.

And there are more options. Different people. Different goals. Different approaches.

For our British and French participants, we also work with Liberation Trail ambassador Mike | Keeps Running , who can help you prepare for the adventure ahead.
