‘I thought it would be one long, boring straight line along the beach. But it’s quite the opposite. There are short climbs and descents, and sometimes a moment to reflect beside a bunker or gun emplacement. And there’s much more gravel underfoot than soft sand.’
- Sabine, Liberation Trail participant
IT’S NOT ALL BEACHES. FAR FROM IT.
The Liberation Trail takes you through the surprisingly varied landscape of Normandy: along the D-Day beaches, over cliffs and gravel tracks, and through the bocage – a maze of small fields, sunken lanes and narrow trails enclosed by thick hedgerows. One moment you’re running with open views across the coast, the next you’re climbing through a sheltered green corridor. It’s this constant change of landscape, terrain and history that makes every stage a different adventure.
Three stages. One incredibly varied landscape.
