Janis Reisulis Impresses with Sixth Overall in France
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Janis Reisulis has enjoyed a positive MXGP of France after leading much of Race Two on his way to securing sixth overall on the day. The sixth round of the MX2 World Championship proved more challenging for teammate Karlis Reisulis, however, who dug deep for 11th overall.
Following a five-week break in the calendar, the MX2 World Championship resumed at a classic French motocross track – Lacapelle-Marival. Featuring hardpack terrain with plenty of jumps, ruts, and hills, as well as a sizable crowd on hand to witness the action, the venue offered a perfect stage for the series to resume in style.
J. Reisulis set the tone for another impressive showing by racing to third in the MX2 Qualifying Race. In the opening Grand Prix race, the reigning EMX250 Champion started well in third, battled inside the top five, and then slipped to sixth with a handful of laps to go.
Race Two underlined the potential of the Yamaha YZ250FM rider. After claiming the holeshot, the Latvian led the way at the front of the field in a ride reminiscent of his EMX250 title-winning season in 2025. J. Reisulis rode a near-perfect race before suffering slightly in the warm weather, and he eventually crossed the finish line in fifth for sixth overall.
Following his season-best finish of fifth last time out in Italy, K. Reisulis was excited for the season to resume in France. Frustratingly, the elder Reisulis brother wasn’t quite able to adapt to the challenging circuit conditions over the weekend. A 14th in Race One was improved upon with 11th in Race Two for 11th overall on the day. After five rounds of racing, K. Reisulis remains eighth in the championship.
Next weekend the team travel to Teutschenthal for the MXGP of Germany for round seven, before travelling further north and to Kegums in Latvia one week later for the brothers’ home Grand Prix.

“It was a solid weekend overall and I’m really happy to be back racing after the five-week break. I did a lot of physical work during the time off, and I think my pace was really good today, especially in the second moto. I felt like my speed was right there with the fastest guys all weekend. The starts were mixed, but the second one was perfect and that really helped. In the second moto I felt great on the bike, even though the heat made it physically tough. I led for most of the race, which was a big positive, and overall there’s a lot to take away from the weekend. I still need to keep working on my cardio, but it was definitely a step in the right direction.”

“Today was quite a difficult day for me. I couldn’t really find my flow all weekend, even though the team did everything possible to help me. I’m disappointed that I couldn’t give them the result they deserved in return. But weekends like this are part of the learning process, and I’ll take the lessons from it and come back stronger. Overall, it just wasn’t our weekend.”
Janis Reisulis komt sterk voor de dag in Frankrijk
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 heeft tijdens de MXGP of France in Lacapelle-Marival een sterke snelheid laten zien. Vooral Janis Reisulis maakte indruk met een zesde plaats overall, terwijl teamgenoot Karlis Reisulis ondanks een lastig weekend als elfde eindigde.
Na een pauze van vijf weken werd het wereldkampioenschap hervat op het klassieke Franse circuit van Lacapelle-Marival. Het harde circuit, met diepe sporen, hoogteverschillen en grote sprongen, vormden samen met de vele fans langs de baan het perfecte decor voor de terugkeer van het WK.
Janis Reisulis zette direct de toon door derde te worden in de kwalificatierace op zaterdag. In de eerste manche begon de regerend EMX250-kampioen sterk op de derde plaats en vocht hij lange tijd mee in de top vijf. In de slotfase viel hij iets terug naar de zesde positie.
De tweede manche liet opnieuw het enorme potentieel van de Yamaha-rijder zien. Janis pakte de holeshot en leidde lange tijd de wedstrijd. De Let reed een sterke en gecontroleerde manche, maar kreeg in de slotfase wat last van de warme omstandigheden. Uiteindelijk finishte hij als vijfde, goed voor een knappe zesde plaats overall.
Na zijn sterke optreden in Italië keek Karlis Reisulis vol vertrouwen uit naar de hervatting van het seizoen. De omstandigheden in Frankrijk bleken echter lastig voor de oudste van de twee broers.
Met een veertiende plaats in de eerste manche en een elfde plaats in de tweede manche eindigde Karlis als elfde overall. Ondanks het moeizame weekend blijft hij achtste in de tussenstand van het kampioenschap.
Aankomend weekend reist het team af naar de MXGP van Duitsland in Teutschenthal. Een week later volgt voor de broers hun thuiswedstrijd tijdens de MXGP van Letland in Kegums.
Janis Reisulis: “Het was overall een solide weekend en ik ben echt blij om na de pauze van vijf weken weer terug te zijn in competitie. Tijdens de break heb ik veel fysiek werk gedaan en ik denk dat mijn snelheid vandaag erg goed was, vooral in de tweede manche. Ik had het gevoel dat mijn tempo het hele weekend bij de snelste jongens hoorde. De starts waren wisselend, maar de tweede was perfect en dat hielp enorm. In de tweede manche voelde ik me geweldig op de motor, ook al maakte de hitte het fysiek zwaar. Ik heb het grootste deel van de manche geleid en dat is een groot positief punt. Er zijn veel goede dingen om mee te nemen uit dit weekend. Ik moet nog blijven werken aan mijn conditie, maar dit was zeker een stap in de goede richting.”
Karlis Reisulis: “Vandaag was een behoorlijk moeilijke dag voor mij. Ik kon het hele weekend mijn ritme niet echt vinden, ondanks dat het team er alles aan deed om mij te helpen. Ik baal ervan dat ik hen niet het resultaat heb kunnen geven dat ze verdienen. Maar dit soort weekenden horen bij het leerproces en ik neem de lessen hiervan mee om sterker terug te komen. Overall was het simpelweg niet ons weekend.”
