The role of the soccer head coach has evolved significantly. Modern head coaches have moved beyond technical and tactical instruction to become leaders of integrated performance environments.

They are responsible for:
• Creating vision
• Aligning staff
• Developing players
• Building culture
• Facilitating learning
• Managing complexity

The most successful head coaches are not necessarily those who know the most. They are those who connect people, ideas, and systems most effectively.
As soccer continues to evolve, coaching will increasingly depend on collaboration, adaptability, and holistic leadership.

Most people may not like this, but it needs to be said.

Coaches are not hired to magically produce results. They're there to guide, teach, and give the right tools.

But if you're only showing up once a week, getting your reps in for 30-60 minutes, and then doing nothing the rest of the week, you're not going to see real progress.

That goes for pitching, hitting, strength training. All of it. The session is where you learn. The work outside of it is where you actually improve.

And this is exactly why I'm so selective with who I work with.

I'll take a kid who shows up, works hard, and puts the time in on his or her own, over raw talent that doesn't practice every single time.

If you're frustrated with your results, don't immediately look at your coach, look at your habits.

What are you doing when no one is watching?

France doing physical work without the ball before the World Cup is not random.

It's strategy.

When you are preparing for a tournament after a long club season, you are not just thinking about tactics. You are thinking about heat, recovery, travel, fatigue, repeated sprint ability, and how to make sure every player arrives ready to compete.

Some players arrive with 4,000+ minutes in their legs, some barely played, some are fresh, some are cooked.

That is why controlled physical work can make sense. Less ball does not mean less football.

Sometimes removing the ball is the smartest way to reduce unnecessary mechanical stress, manage fatigue, equalize loads, and still keep the engine on.

The ball is important, but the body carries the ball.

And if one of the most talented national teams in the world still invests in physical preparation, maybe physical training is not the problem.

Maybe the problem is people who still don't understand what it is for.
