The Bishop Mtumbuka Peace Trophy-Chitipa U-20 competition wrapped up an action-packed first round with Navitengo F.C, Impala F.C, and Mubanga holding onto the leads in their respective zones. A thrilling final week of matches across the Kameme, Chitipa Boma, and Lufita zones finalized the group standings, setting up an intense second half of the tournament. In the Kameme Zone, Navitengo F.C finished the first round comfortably at the top with 17 points, remaining undefeated after two crucial wins in the final week. They kicked off their dominant run on Thursday with a 5-1 thrashing of T**i Medicals F.C, powered by braces from Flytwel Munkhondia and Lenox Munkhondia, alongside a goal from Noted Lwesha, while Kapina Kamwera pulled one back for the Medicals. Navitengo followed that up on Saturday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over second-placed Nkhanga F.C, where Medson Simwera and Taonga Davie scored for the league leaders to safely secure their pole position going into the break. Elsewhere in the zone, Kameme Rangers F.C moved up the table after being awarded a 2-0 forfeit victory over bottom-placed Chikata F.C.
The battle in the Chitipa Boma Zone concluded with Impala F.C sitting at the summit with 15 points after a flawless first round with no losses. Impala solidified their leadership on Friday with a narrow 2-1 win against Santos F.C, thanks to decisive goals from Robert Mwamlima and Emmanuel Chiona, while Ben Mshani scored the lone goal for Santos. Earlier on Wednesday, Santos F.C had enjoyed better fortunes, defeating Young Stars 2-1. Ben Mshani and Denson Kanthonga found the net for Santos in that fixture, while Hastings Sibale scored the consolation goal for the Young Stars. In other Boma Zone action, Real Stars played out two consecutive stalemates, grinding out a 0-0 draw against Chitipa Hammers on Wednesday and another scoreless 0-0 finish against Katutula F.C on Friday.
The Lufita Zone remains the tightest group in the tournament, with Mubanga and White Movers locked at the top with 13 points each. White Movers mounted a massive charge in the final week to close the gap, starting with a 0-0 draw against Nabulongo on Wednesday, followed by a spectacular 3-2 away victory against table-toppers Mubanga on Friday. Innocent Kifungwe's brace and a strike from Gift Mwenga outweighed Willard Pie’s double for Mubanga to seal the crucial three points. Meanwhile, the biggest scoreline of the week belonged to Lufita United, who absolutely dismantled Chape Stars 8-0 on Wednesday. Kumbukani Msompha put on a masterclass performance by netting four goals, while Lesly Chipofya, Bright Kabaghe, Philip Chizumira, and Chawanangwa Sikwese all added to the tally, leaving Lufita United in a strong third-place position with 11 points as the teams head into the second round break.
