Throughout history, the philosophies and teachings of great spiritual leaders have been deeply rooted in emotional intelligence.

True spirituality begins with understanding yourself. Learn to understand and acklowledge your faults; understand your emotions, correct yourself and heal yourself.

Because the better you understand yourself, the easier it becomes to understand others, respond to situations with wisdom, resolve conflicts peacefully and build happier relationships.

Spiritual growth begins within. Before trying to change the world around you, start by transforming yourself. ❤️

Instead of constantly trying to correct others, judging their actions, or finding faults in them, turn that attention inward. Start by identifying your own shortcomings and working on them.

When you work on yourself, develop emotional maturity and elevate your inner state, you naturally become less attracted to people, situations and energies that don't align with your values.

As you grow, many unnecessary conflicts and complications in life begin to fade away. Sometimes, the easiest way to create a happier life is simply to correct yourself before trying to correct the world around you.

Yoga offers powerful techniques for self-reflection, self-awareness and self-discipline, helping you recognise your own patterns, understand your mistakes and consciously transform yourself.

Don't waste your energy judging others. Invest it in becoming a better version of yourself. 🕉️

🌿 Whistle Breath (Whistling Pranayama)

How to practise

Sit comfortably with your spine upright and shoulders relaxed.

Shape your lips as if you are going to whistle.

Inhale slowly through your mouth with a whistling sound.

Close your mouth and exhale gently through your nose.

Keep the breath smooth, slow and comfortable. Do not force it or hold your breath.

Timing

Inhale: 3–4 seconds.

Exhale: 4–6 seconds.

Duration: 1–3 minutes initially, increasing to 5 minutes if comfortable.

Frequency: Once or twice daily.

Benefits

Encourages slow, mindful breathing.

May help reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Supports emotional regulation and awareness of the breath.

May encourage parasympathetic activity when practised slowly and comfortably.

The vagus nerve and relaxation

The vagus nerve is the tenth cranial nerve and a major part of the parasympathetic nervous system, which supports the body's rest-and-digest functions. Gentle, slow breathing may influence vagal activity and help the body settle into a calmer state.

Remember: The goal is to breathe gently, not deeply or forcefully. Stop if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable.

🧠 Emotional Intelligence: Feel First. Understand. Then Respond. ❤️

One of the most valuable and timely lessons in today’s world is learning to understand our emotions before we react. So many people react in the heat of the moment, only to regret their words, behaviour, and actions later.

Emotional intelligence begins with a pause. Understanding what we feel, why we feel it, and choosing how we respond.

Miuru Jayaweera teaches not merely through theory, but through real-life experiences, practical examples, and lessons drawn from her own journey. Her teachings come from lived experience, reflection, and a genuine understanding of human emotions.

🧠 Yoga has the tools to transform the way we relate to our thoughts.

Through breathwork, meditation, mindful awareness, and when appropriate asana practice, yoga gives us practical tools to work with negative thought patterns rather than simply being controlled by them.

With consistent, long-term practice, yoga can contribute to neuroplastic changes the brain’s ability to adapt and form new patterns. Over time, this can help us develop healthier ways of thinking, responding and regulating our emotions. In that sense, sustained yogic practice can truly transform the person we become.

But there is an important distinction. 🌿

When symptoms of depression, anxiety, or another psychological condition are severe, yoga should not be viewed as an instant remedy or a replacement for professional medical care. Please consult a qualified doctor or mental-health professional, especially when symptoms are significant or persistent.

Modern medicine can be extremely important in reducing acute symptoms and stabilising the condition, while yoga can become a valuable complementary lifestyle practice for long-term wellbeing.

The goal is not to choose between medicine and yoga.
It is to use the right tool at the right time. 🤍

With patience and consistent practice, yogic techniques can help us gradually change deeply established patterns of thought, breath, attention and behaviour and create a healthier relationship with our own mind.
