🏉 Friday Night Lights – Rathdrum U16s vs Arklow U16s
Theres something special about playing Friday night lights . U16 girls took to the pitch to face local rivals Arklow at the ivy leaf last night.
Plenty of support from the sidelines from both teams added a spark of electricity to the atmosphere and reminded us exactly why we love rugby.
From the opening whistle, both teams brought plenty of energy and determination. The girls worked hard for each other, showing great commitment in defence and some excellent attacking play.
Just 13 minutes into the game, Rathdrum got the breakthrough. Forward Carissa powered her way over the line to score Rathdrum's first try of the night, converted by Hannah Sheridan getting the scoreboard moving and giving the girls a huge boost of confidence. 💪
Arklow fought the Rathdrum defense & added to that score 10 minutes later with an unconverted try and another before half time.
Arklow came ready for the challenge and made Rathdrum work for every metre. The game was played with great intensity and a fantastic spirit, with both teams giving everything they had.
For Rathdrum, the biggest positive was the way the girls continued to work together. There were big carries, strong tackles and plenty of moments where the girls backed themselves and their teammates proven by a 2nd try close to final whistle by another forward Sophia Corcoran and again converted by Hannah.
A huge well done to both teams for putting on a great game and showing the skill, determination and sportsmanship that makes girls' rugby so exciting.
A big shout out to Ria Purdy and Calandra Kelly on their debut with Rathdrum .
💙 Well done Rathdrum U16s! 💙
The season is only getting started, and if Friday night was anything to go by, there are plenty more exciting times ahead for this group.
