Desmond RFC and St Senans RFC got the U13 season underway in a dry but blustery Cullinagh on Sunday morning. Both teams belied the challenge of stepping up to the full-size field with a superb demonstration of attacking rugby.

Desmond struck first and powered into an early lead. Superb handling skills across the backline with Euan Geary and Keanu Erwee at 12 and 13 created opportunities for Robert Kennedy and John Keogh in the backfield. Scrum-half Harley Barrett found willing runners in his back row forwards; Donagh Carr, Euan Hayes and Matthew Hayes posing questions for St Senans on the day.

The forwards were not to be outshone however with crucial contributions from Harry White, Aaron Rooney and Oscar Faigl both in the set piece and open play with Conor Horgan and John McMahon providing power and tough tackling at 4 and 5.

Out-half Tiernan Triggs kept the score board ticking throughout and despite a Shannon try on the stroke of half time, the home team settled again in the second half. A late knock to the knee for Joseph Keogh as he crossed the tryline after a storming run from the half way was the only dampener on a great performance by the home team, typified by a St Senan’s ball held up over the line following a herculean defensive effort drawing the fulltime whilst from the referee.

A quick reminder ahead of tonight - NO TICKET, NO ENTRY. Please ensure you bring your ticket with you.

All tickets will be checked by staff before entry, so please have your ticket ready when you arrive.

Doors open at 6pm and seating is first come, first served, so we’d recommend getting there early. The show starts at 7pm sharp.

Split the Bucket will also be there tonight, with the draw taking place during the night.
