🔵 Our 10-Year Vision 🟡

At our recent AGM, Mullingar RFC unveiled an ambitious ten-year development plan — a roadmap to build the club’s future and keep pace with our incredible growth.

With projected investment of around €3.1 million across three phases, here’s where we’re headed:

⚫ Short term (2026–2028) — solar energy, new floodlighting for midweek training, and a new main entrance to ease those busy Saturday mornings.

⚫ Medium term (2028–2031) — a new stand at 4G Pitch 2, better accessibility, a bigger equipment store, and pitch drainage and resurfacing.

⚫ Long term (2031–2036) — a fifth pitch, a new indoor training facility, and additional dressing rooms.

We’re growing fast — from around 1,300 members today towards a projected 2,100+ — and this plan makes sure the club, the facilities and the welcome are ready for every player who comes through our gates.

It won’t all happen overnight, and it’ll take grants, sponsorship and plenty of hard work. But it gives us something to aim for — and the ambition to keep Mullingar RFC at the heart of the community for the next 100 years. 💙🏉

🔴⚪ A worthy winner — Paul Murphy 🏆

At our AGM, one of the club’s most special honours was presented: the Paddy Cooney Memorial Cup, awarded each year to a volunteer who gives that bit extra to Mullingar RFC.

This year, there was only one name on it — Paul Murphy.

Paul is the person you call when something needs doing, and somehow it’s already done. Day in, day out, behind the scenes and without fuss, he’s exactly the kind of volunteer who keeps a club like ours ticking over. When the pressure’s on, he’s the one who steps up to the plate — and this award is a small thank you for a huge contribution.

The cup itself carries real meaning. Paddy Cooney was a great servant of the club and part of the team that secured our grounds and laid out the pitches — so to have your name added to this trophy is one of the proudest honours a member can receive.

Congratulations, Paul. Thoroughly deserved, and thank you for everything you do. 👏💙🏉

Welcoming our new leadership

A big moment for Mullingar RFC at our AGM as we welcome Denis McDermott as our new President and Donal McGovern as incoming Vice-President. 👏

Congratulations to both — two people who care deeply about this club and have already given so much to it. They step into their roles at an exciting time, with a thriving mini and youth set-up, growing senior and girls’ rugby, brilliant new facilities, and a bold ten-year vision to build on. There’s real work ahead, and we couldn’t ask for a better pair to lead us into it.

Denis and Donal, you have the full backing of the members, volunteers, coaches and players behind you. We’re looking forward to everything that’s to come. 💙🏉

Pictured with outgoing President Ciaran Murtagh, who hands over a club in superb health — and who, we’re glad to say, isn’t going anywhere. Ciaran stays on as an active member of our executive committee and a familiar face around the club, as always.

Onwards, Mullingar. 🔴

👏 Thank you, Ciaran

As Ciaran Murtagh steps down after two years as President of Mullingar RFC, we want to say a simple but heartfelt thank you.

In his final address, Ciaran looked back on a period like few others in the club’s history — the centenary celebrations, the opening of our new clubhouse and facilities, record participation across every section, and one of the most successful playing seasons we’ve ever had. Under his watch the club hosted major fixtures too, including — for the first time — an under-19 international against France, with the under-17 provincials set to return again this August.

But it was his closing words that said the most. Ciaran finished not by talking about silverware or stands, but by thanking his own family — for their patience and support through two demanding years, when Sundays and so much else were given to the club. It was a reminder that behind every volunteer keeping Mullingar RFC going, there’s a family quietly supporting them too.

Ciaran, thank you for your time, your energy and your leadership. The foundations you’ve helped lay will serve this club for years to come. ❤️🏉
