There are two greenway walking and cycling routes in Westmeath. The Westmeath Royal Canal Greenway is up and running since it was officially launched in April 2014. Meath border to Coolnahay Harbour, a 31km route with many interesting stops and access points along the way. In a couple of weeks, the remainder of the canal in Co. Westmeath - from Coolnahay to the Co. Longford border - will open, bri

ngthe trail to 47km in total. The second greenway is under construction along the disused Mullingar to Athlone railway line. Works are well advanced and we expect the trail to be open in a couple of months time. We'll keep you posted on progress. Here's what it's like while under construction.
