St. Colmanโ€™s 0-05

Aghada U14 hurlers played their third round-robin championship match on Friday evening in Rostellan against St Colmanโ€™s, the amalgamation of Cloyne and Russell Rovers.

With a yellow weather warning in place, driving wind and rain swept across the pitch, and conditions felt more like mid-November than early June. The weather had a major influence on proceedings, with both sides struggling to handle the elements. Despite the conditions Bobby Creedon was ever accurate with his free taking and at half-time, the teams were level at 0โ€“5 apiece.

Aghada had the benefit of the wind in the second half and in the 10th minute, a fine finish from Aaron Murphy provided the breakthrough and gave Aghada a much-needed boost.
A superb defensive effort kept St Colmanโ€™s scoreless in the second half and with Eoghan Condon working tirelessly at wing forward, delivering excellent ball the 2nd goal came from Dara Kelleher and points from Seรกn Ryan & Rory Casey with Aghada scoring 2-3 in the second half and battled superbly against the conditions
to secure a hard-earned victory.

As the sun shines this evening, itโ€™s a pure sign that the Junior and Leaving Cert exams are very much on the horizon.

With the exams beginning tomorrow morning, we want to wish every member of our club completing exams the very best of luck from all in Aghada GAA Club.

You have put in massive work over the last few months, balancing your studies with your club commitments on the pitch. The discipline, resilience, and focus you display every time you wear the Aghada jersey are the exact same tools that will get you through the next few weeks.

Take it one exam at a time, stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and just do the best you can.

A cracking game of hurling this evening in Rostellan where the visiting Youghal team really put it up to the Aghada lads. Half way through the first half Youghal led 2-02 to 0-03 , with points from David Oโ€™Riordan keeping Aghada in touch. Youghal displayed some savage catches from puck outs and striking of the ball on the run and seemed to be hungrier in the tackle. It took a goal from Ben Connolly to give the home team the belief to come out of their shell and hurl. Further points from David Oโ€™Riordan and Tomas Day followed by a further goal , this time from David saw the lads pull ahead by 2-05 to 2-03 at half time . Ironically , even though we only added a further three points in the second half, excellent scores from Sam McCarthy, David Oโ€™Riordan and one from Jacob Cruise Cashman, the Aghada lads actually played much better with some great deliveries forward from frees from Cathal Walsh , some great blocks from Hunter McRae, David and Tomas , and great tracking and tackling by Sam and Isaac Logue . Special mention to a monumental effort from David all game who inspired the lads to this victory and a โ€˜tip of the hatโ€™ to Jacob who had them smiling back in Ballinrostig with a belter of a point.
