It wasn’t to be for Ryan yesterday in the Cadet All-Ireland semi-final, where he faced Sean Kelly, the current European champion.
It was a very cagey and closely contested bout. We felt Sean had edged the first round, while Ryan edged the second. Going into the third, we believed Ryan had a real chance of winning the contest if he could get the nod in the final round.
Ryan did win the third in our opinion, so the bout really came down to that extremely tight second round. In fairness, it was simply too close to argue with the decision.
Sean went on to win today’s final and become a nine-time Irish champion, so congratulations to him and everyone at St Abban’s/Kilmyshall.
Most importantly, Ryan did himself, his family and Rush Boxing Club extremely proud. He stepped into the ring against a nine-time Irish champion and current European champion and didn’t look out of place for a second.
A brilliant performance at the highest level of Irish boxing, and another important step forward in Ryan’s development. We are all very proud of him. 🥊

Two great days of sparring for Ryan 🥊
Alex Pepper from Baldoyle Boxing Club visited us last night, and today Martin Nevin from Olympic Boxing Club Galway came up for some quality rounds.
All three lads are preparing for the All-Irelands, and all three are looking sharp and in great form. Best of luck to them in their final preparations.
