Amach go Rockabill inné. Yesterdays row in our 5 hander An Béal Deirg was inspiring. The Rock is the most important bird colony for Roseate Terns and also has significant numbers of Kittewakes, Puffins, Gannetts. Razorbills and a particularly rare pair of Black Petrels were picked out by our Ornithologist expert Marie Therese Heffernan. 5 rowers John, Anca, Feargal,Conor and Shane were also joined by Sandra O Sullivan also doing research for local environmental group SWEG.
We had light northerly Breeze and which calmed on the way back on this 14km journey . We just stuck to the pier and stairs area to avoid disruption to the busy breeding season and had a break and left. A number of angling boats were also round the rock and we were monitored by a number of seals. Such a special place worth protecting from the hazards of the NISA windfarm development which should be further away from this important sensitive area.

Todays currach trip to bring bird E
expert Marie Louise Heffernan and Sandra O Sullivan out to Rockabill to monitor the birds and wildlife, was an absorbing experience for all.
Our 5 rowers John, Anca Feargal, Conor and I worked hard on the 14km trip round the rock. Marie Louise identified the Red listed Kittewakes, Terns both Common and Roseate Razorbills, Gannetts, Puffins and the very rare Black Petrels were seen on the way out. Great conditions on the sea with light wind from the North. We just stopped for a tea break at the pier area and left soon after. 2hrs30min rowing gave us a good workout in our N Mayo boat.looking forward to the next Saturday! #

Síos i Ufáillí ar an tSionnán ar an deireadh seachtain le Currachaí na Sceirí ag pósadh ár cara Dermot. Down in Offaly at the weekend on the Shannon with the currachaí at marriage of our clubmate Dermot.
Great fun had and tryouts given to guests in Saoirse and Báid Ailin in sweltering sunshine. Finbars band Homebrew and Vinyl Derek assisted by Shane did the disco. Dermot got kidnapped and questionned by the Fingal Mummers to make sure he wes doing the right thing. All was finally approved and great times had.
