We had a very special visitor to the club last night.
Caoimhe Ni Rian the granddaughter of our former president Eamon Ryan came to the club and gifted us some of Eamons photos and trophies that he won.
For those that didnt get to meet Eamon he was a very proud member of our club who gave his whole life to St Francis firstly as a boxer for many years where he won multiple titles and represented his country many times and with great success,he then took control as a coach and trained many champions and shaped countless lives in his decades of coaching St Francis.
He took over as president and was a huge driving force for our club especially in securing us our current home when we were being moved from the Arthurs quay area.
It was probably as a referee and official that most knew Eamon, a briliantly fair no nonsence and much sought after ref, it was very common for clubs from all across Ireland to request Eamon was made the middle man for their boxers bouts.
Such was Eamons regard in boxing he was chosen many times to travel to major international competitions as the national team manager and respresnting his country in this roll made Eamon very proud.
Add to that decades dedication to the Limerick county board and provincial council both of which he presided over.
Eamon was a special man and our club would not be here today without all his years of hard work.
We hope to display some of Eamons photos and trophies in the club in the near future and it will be a fitting tribute to all the work completed by him down through the years.
