WEEKLY NEWS: There will be a prize giving presentation this Friday evening 25th September at 7.30 p.m. sharp in the clubhouse. All prize winners are strongly urged to attend or make suitable arrangements with the Committee if unable to do so.

We are delighted to announce that Strandhill Golf Club will host the Irish Senior Men's Open Amateur Championship between 18th and 21st May 2027. This is a great honour for the club and we look forward to support from members in the hosting of this competition in due course.

Ally McIntosh, golf course architect, gave a very detailed and informative presentation on the ongoing works under the Course Development Masterplan last Tuesday evening in the clubhouse. This was a very interactive event, with the large group of members present providing valuable feedback on the works completed to date and the further works that are in the pipeline. Following this, Project 100+ , the Strandhill Golf Club Strategic Plan (2026-2031) was launched by Club Chairperson, David Kiely, which included brief presentations from the team leads of the nine pillars making up the Strategy. The purpose of the Strategy is to provide a framework for the development of our club up to our Centenary Year in 2031 and beyond. This Strategy will guide our decision making so as to ensure that we can operate in a planned and progressive manner in the years ahead. The club would like to sincerely thank all those members involved in the development of Project 100+ to date and also to Des Power for his leadership with the project. We would greatly welcome members who would like to get involved in helping out with the development of any of the goals - please email [email protected] if you would like to become involved.

The results of last week’s competitions were as follows: Teresa Meaney (13) from Castlebar G.C. won the 18 hole mixed open Stableford competition on Friday 18th September with 39 points. Denis P. Hickey (14) from Lee Valley G.C. was second with 37 points and Michael Forbes Jr. (4) from Strabane G.C. came third with 35 points. D.J. Walsh (24) won the 18 hole Stableford club competition on Saturday 19th September with 39 points, Louis Cabena (9) was second with 38 points, whilst Vincent Dwyer (9) came third with 37 points. The club competition on Sunday 20th September was a Strokeplay competition and was kindly sponsored by EJ’s Menswear. Ken O’Neill (13) came first with a net 61 (74-13) and Niall Kearns (11) was second with a net 65 (76-11). Paul Gallagher Jnr. (8) had the lowest gross score on the day, shooting 73. Anthony Skeffington (12) won the Category 1 competition with a net score of 68 (80-12), Jimmy Glynn (14) won the Category 2 competition with a net 68 (82-14) and Colm Brennan (15) won the Category 3 competition with a net 66 (81-15).

All at Strandhill Golf Club are delighted to welcome Collette and Darko Mavrak and their team on board as our new caterers. Collette and Darko bring with them a wealth of experience in hospitality and we’re really looking forward to the exciting dining options (with an Italian twist) they come up with in the weeks and months ahead. A reminder about our club information event this evening (Tuesday) at 7.30 p.m. in the clubhouse, at which Ally McIntosh, Course Designer, will provide an overview of further course development works being planned. We will also launch our Club Strategy which will help guide us towards our Centenary in 2031. Hope to see you there!

WEEKLY NEWS: In last week’s competitions, the 18 hole mixed open competition on Friday 11th September was won by Vanessa Coonan (32) from Millicent G.C. with 42 points. Rita Teevan (37) from Straffan G.C. came second with 37 points and Kevin Lee (9) from Athenry G.C. came third with 36 points. On Saturday 12th September we had a club 18 hole Stableford competition, which was kindly sponsored by The Venue Bar & Restaurant and which was won by John Stewart (10) with 38 points. James Lawlor (15) was second with 37 points, whilst Jason East (10) won the Back 9 competition with 18 points. Stephen English (6) won the Category 1 competition with 35 points, Eoin Griffin (15) won the Category 2 competition with 37 points and Eamon Walsh (18) won the Category 3 competition with 36 points. The 18 hole club Stableford competition on Sunday 13th September was won by Pat McManus (17) with 40 points, Pat Woulfe (13) came second on a countback with 40 points and Martin Donoghue (15) came third with 38 points. WEEKLY NEWS: Strandhill Golf Club is delighted to host the West Coast Challenge golf tournament this week from Monday to Thursday and we wish all competitors the very best of luck in this exciting event. Christy Murphy (20) won the mixed open Stableford competition played on 18th September with 40 points, Pat Brogan (18) from Boyle G.C. came second with 38 points and Martin Campion (16) was third with 37 points. Cormac Kearns (24) was the winner of Friday’s mixed open Stableford competition with 39 points, Tom O’Sullivan (9) was second with 35 points and Daire Kearns (7) came third with 32 points. The club competition on Saturday 5th was kindly sponsored by The Embassy Steakhouse was a stroke play event. Niall Kearns (11) was the overall winner with a net 68 (79-11), Ronnie Doyle (7) was second on a count back with a net 68 also (75-7) and Brian Dwyer had the lowest gross score with a score of 77. Aidan McGowan (14) won the Category 1 prize with a net 70 (84-14), Gavin Sweeney won the Category 2 prize with a net 70 (87-17) and Gerard Fitzpatrick won the Category 3 prize with a net 69 (86-17). MP Hire kindly sponsored the club Stableford competition on Sunday 6th September, which was won by Conor Keane (5) with 37 points. Padraic Tuffy (9) was second on a count back with 37 points and Martin Campion (18) won the Back 9 competition with 17 points. Philip Osborne (9) won the Category 1 competition with 34 points, John Hannon (14) won the Category 2 competition with 33 points and Peter McGrath (17) won the Category 3 competition with 35 points.
