Start of a new football year again and a great way to begin, with 2 of our Killorglin A.F.C players making both teams of the week in the KSBGL!
First up was Katelyn o Sullivan, who plays for our u13s girls, and was outstanding in goals, in their 1-0 narrow defeat at home to Killarney Athletic, pulling off some great saves throughout the game!
In the boys side,u14s player,Aiden McKeown gets the honours, in their 4:1 win over Mastergeeha, at home in Dragons Den! Aiden bagged the whole 4 goals on the day, scoring an absolute screamer with his second, in top right corner!!
Well done to both players, keep up the great work 👏

Saturday 5th September

Killorglin B AFC 4 Mastergeeha 1
U14
Venue: Dragon Den, Killorglin

A great team performance from Killorglin AFC saw us run out 4–1 winners over Mastergeeha at the Dragon Den, Saturday

Despite having a big squad, every player played their part and contributed to a strong overall performance. Special mention goes to Aidan McKeown, who was outstanding, scoring all four goals and deservedly picking up Man of the Match.

McKeown opened the scoring after it was Joshua Sweeney cutting in from the left to set up McKeown, allowing Aidan to finish calmly. His second was an absolute worldie into the top-right corner before two excellent finishes completed his four-goal haul.

The back four of Lochlann, Antony, Aaron, Roy, and goal keeper Stephen were excellent, showing great composure and confidence in playing out from the back. Roy, at right back, deserves special mention, along with Leo, who both put in strong performances.

Donnagh McShane was commanding in midfield throughout, continuing to lead the way even after substitutions and when the team was reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Overall, it is a very impressive team display, with everyone contributing to a deserved victory.

U16 premiership
Killarney Athletic v Killorglin
Halftime 2-5
Full time 2-5
Scores Adam Fleming x2 Luke Clifford and James Rooney Cian O’Sullivan
On a dry but overcast Saturday evening our u16 premier team travel to Killarney Athletic. Athletic started the brighter and found themselves 2-0 after 2 great strikes that Noah Browne could do nothing about. However we got our passing game going and started getting joy down the flanks, especially Adam Fleming and Jack Clifford. We made it 2-1 after great build up play from Jack and Luke as Luke came inside and unleashed a rocket into the net. We made it 2-2 after an Adam Fleming free kick went all the way in . Adam had his second after a crouching tackle from Darragh Burke as Cian McGillycuddy put him in behind for a great finish. Minutes later another great ball from Jack Clifford found James Rooney for 2-4. We made it 2-5 After Adam Fleming in swinging corner was put away by Cian O’Sullivan. Into the second half and Athletic upped the tempo and called Noah Browne into action but he stayed alert and made crucial saves. We introduced Freddie Greenwood for Luke Clifford midway through the second half. We saw out the rest of the half for a fantastic start to the season. Great performances from all 12 on the day but MOTM goes to Adam Fleming

Saturday 5th September

Division 3 U12
Tralee Dynamos C 6
Killorglin AFC B 3
Tom McKenna ⚽️⚽️
Jack Cahillane ⚽️
U12Bs had a tough assignment of Dynamos away for their first game. Despite settling well Dynamos went ahead early on but Killorglin hit back with a well taken goal by Tom McKenna with an assist from the hard working Midfielder Tom Reidy.
Dynamos hit another goal but Killorglin kept them under pressure at the other end with Zach Scully giving a neat pass to Finn Tyther O’Sullivan who hit just over the bar.
What followed was 2 fantastic one on one saves by our assured goalie Breandán Ó Grifín then Tom McKenna scoring his 2nd goal after breaking from midfield.
Shortly after, Dynamos scored an excellent goal dribbling from the half way line and another breaking from our corner.
Debutant Jack Cahillane then hit a well taken goal to make it 4-3. Killorglin quite rightly pushed forward for the equaliser but Dynamos struck again with a scrambled goal.
In an end to end finish Killorglin’s best chance came from a whipped free from Aran Kissane which Zach Scully headed just wide.
Dynamos hit one more but Killorglin never gave up constantly pressing forward for another goal.
U12Bs worked hard, showed plenty of skill and took their chances when they came.
Plenty of contenders for MoTM especially our goalie Breandàn and defenders Tiernan, Igor and Oran, striker Zach Scully’s constant running up front but today goes to
MoTM : Tom ‘two goals’ McKenna
Thanks to Tralee Dynamos and Ref for a well contested match

U14 Division 1
Killorglin A v Killarney Athletic D
HT 4-0
FT 4-1
Charlie Enright ⚽⚽
Oisin O Donoghue ⚽
Sean Evans ⚽

Bright start to the new season for a Killorglin 14A side much changed from last season, playing at home to a younger Killarney Athletic side.
Quick opener for the home team as Oisin O Donoghue nodded in Páidí Ó Muicheartaigh's corner. The home side continued to force the play and tacked on a further goal from Sean Evans who was assisted by Charlie Enright...before Páidí O Muircheartaigh provided the assists for Charlie Enright's pair if goals.
Second half saw Killarney Athletic come out and forcing the play, leading to a penalty despatched past Killorglin keeper CJ Foley.
The last 10-15 mins saw some good opportunities from both sides, with Jack Moloney, Henry Ireland, Darragh O Connor and Charlie Enright going close.
Motm PĂĄidĂ O Muircheartaigh who pulled the strings tirelessly in midfield.

Friday 4th September
Girls Division 1
Killorglin AFC v Killarney Athletic

HT : 0 - 1
FT : 0 - 1

GOTM : Katelyn O Sullivan

Well done to the girls who put in a massive effort against Killarney Athletic in the 26/27 season opener for the league. The game started off at a frantic pace with both teams trying to suss each other out, plenty of attacks from both sides but defences held firm on both sides. Killarney made a great break through and a well finished goal had us one down mid way through the first half. The girls rallied again though and defences cancelled each other out, there were a number of attacks on both sides with Killarney having a number of them before the end of the 2nd half. After we went one down our goalkeeper Katelyn totally took control of her area cleaning up attacks, made a number of vital saves and saved an absolute point blank screamer before the half finished to keep us in the game.

The second half started off as frantic as the first, with the pitch in brilliant condition it was all set to be a great second half and it certainly didn't disappoint. We made multiple breaks and runs but Killarneys defence were working extremely well together to keep us at bay. Our midfield were putting in a massive amount of mileage up and down the pitch chasing everything and everyone, supporting the backs and setting up our attacks. Our forwards were being well marshalled by a very strong Killarney defence but worked really well to support midfield and hold possession to set up our own attacks and runs. Defence was working great with some great tackles, marking and goal line clearances. When Killarney got a free kick on the edge of the area it looked like we were going two down but our keeper came up with another amazing save to raise the spirits again. After this we had a number of great runs, passes and link up play but a Killarney foot just always seemed to get in the way of the perfect ball with a well timed tackle or interception. We had a number of chances in the second half from some great runs and passes through midfield and were unlucky not to grab ourselves an equalizer.

A great game to watch from the sideline with all the girls putting in a great effort from start to finish, even though it was a loss it was a great team effort all-round for our first 11 aside league game on a full size pitch. Thanks to the referee, everyone who came out to support us, to Killarney Athletic for another great sporting game and thanks again to the girls for playing their hearts out as usual.
